Cowher is easily the best HC choice. But the Bills won't get him unless they offer him the power to make all player personnel decisions.

Taking a chance on all of these no name college coaches, most of whom have only been successful for a few years at the college level, would be a huge, huge mistake.

The NFL is a totally different level. It takes NFL experience to succeed at the NFL level. One would be wise to select a HC who has actually succeeded at the NFL level. How about a HC who has actually competed with the like of B. Belichick and outcoached him?????

If N. Saban, probably the best college coach alive, could not succeed at the NFL level, what in the world makes think that all of these no name guys that are suddenly coming out of the woodwork would??

It's laughable. So, so laughable.

Chip Kelly said what he runs in college would not work in the NFL. He is smart, he is an innovative offense minded coach. Very successful in college. He is young. He uses the very thing mentioned by Russ Brandon today- analytics. I really, really don't want some NFL retread. The NFL recycles coaches like crazy. They were all fired for a reason or reasons. Just unoriginal. The majority fail more than once yet they keep getting jobs. I want someone exactly like Chip Kelly. New, fresh ideas, fresh start, build something new, innovative and exciting. Take a chance instead of playing it safe and just setting yourself up to fail again.

Bill Belicheck, Dick Vermeil, Bill Parcells, Tony Dungy, Tom Coughlin, and Jon Gruden all say hi.

Mike Holmgren and John Fox haven't done too badly for themselves, either.

I just don't think that Buffalo will be looking for a strong silent type head coach like Lovie Smith. After Gailey and Jauron, I think someone like Smith's style is too similar to those head coaches and they want bigger change this time around.

I voted for Mike McCoy, but I'm very interested in the Syracuse head coach and Horton (who's name wasn't even listed).

you want fire- tony sparano is available ...

with lovie, someone has to hire an OC and tell lovie to work with him as lovie himself just can´´t find one :D

but considering the talent at hand i think he did well overall.

Just say no to Lovie. The Bears have tremendous talent on defense and offense and special teams (except for a couple O-Lineman). They have very few wins (over teams with winning records) in recent years. The Bears canned him because his teams have underachieved.

i'm on the lovie bandwagon but this chip kelly guy is very intriguing. he sounds like the kind of long term, let him learn the ropes kind of coach in the pittsburgh steelers give 'em some rope tradition. give hime security and tenure and let him form his craft NFL style. kind of risky but let's see how the interview process goes- if he agrees to a pow wow. reading his wiki bio pretty much sells me.

while lovie might get the bills to the playoffs sooner- kelly has the potential to build a dynasty system once he finds his way.

Maybe his winning record, including one this season, his super bowl appearance with rex frigging Grossman, and his success leading perennially awesome defenses with personnel similar to ours have something to do with it. But if some guy on a message board calls him a loser, a loser he must be.

yes that!

yes that!

I would also take a good look at the Baylor Coach for Offensive Coordinator and his qb

right - in 2010 they were in the NFC Championship game, 2011 they were 7-3 before Cutler went down, and finished this year 10-6 with Cutler missing 2 games due to concussion. if we hadn't split with Minny, it would be the Bears in the playoffs right now. the more I think on this Lovie firing, the more I see this as a new GM wanting his own guy. otherwise they'd have just blown up the oline, fired Tice and promoted Bates from within. the Bills would be damn lucky to get Lovie, imo.

and as for "a couple olinemen".....I don't even know what that means....the ENTIRE line was a bunch of scrubs. week to week you never knew who was starting.

I think it matters less who the next HC is than who the next QB is. Until the Bills find a legitimate NFL QB none of these guys will be too succesful.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rappaport, the Bills have legitimate interest in Alex Smith as a temporary caretaker as they groom a rookie. He suggested its one of the details being discussed with Whisenhunt.

Chargers Rumors: Jon Gruden Heading to San Diego

Jon Gruden will leave the Monday Night Football booth to become the next head coach of the San Diego Chargers, predicts Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network. Jon Gruden. This is the perfect opportunity for both parties. If you follow the links, it is speculative fiction, nothing more: Yardbarker links back to an article on something called NFL Injury Report, which then links back to NFLNetwork.com--- which is the 12/31 article where analyst Daniel Jeremiah is simply guessing which coaches might be the best fit for which vacancy. He suggests Lovie Smith as a good fit for the Bills.

Wait. Have people actually read the question? Should be not will be. How could anyone choose Lovie Smith over Bill Cowher. Kidding me?

Cowher may be an option in this poll, but he is decidedly not an option in reality.

I dont understand the Lovie Smith love. The guy is a loser.

No he is not. He may not show a ton of emotion but he has had a lot of success as a coach. I think this would be the safest choice. He is a defensive coach and understands his players and the game.

Arizona DC Ray Horton should be an option. The Bills are interviewing him tomorrow.

This !!!

Get younger in thinking. Fix the defense. Avoid re-treads.

Problem is, it "feels" like he is doing what others have done before. Leveraging his true desires by using the Bills, or letting the Bills negotiate the floor of his next contract with someone else.

Good part is, he can see we have some (woefully few) pieces in place on defense. And with the division ripe for the taking . . . .
