It's a good thing they let us know that there will be no news until tomorrow. Otherwise I might have killed my F5 key and also my phone.

There were reporters hanging out at OBD all day in the event Buddy or Russ made themselves available, or there was breaking news or a presser of some kind--- according to WGR, many of these reporters were annoyed that the Bills never informed them if there was any reason for them to stay.

It smacks slightly of organizational dysfunction. Add the fact that the Bills official news release only mentions Gailey, and then Scott Berchtold had to ask Gailey to mention (in his brief comments to the media) that the entire coaching staff was also relieved of their duties, and it's a bit embarrassing.

Obviously, everything's happening pretty quickly, but it doesn't exactly seem like anyone is minding the store.

Here's my guess. Since the scouting process is already underway. It will be announced tomorrow that Nix will retire following the draft to be succeeded by Whaley. Whaley will do the HC interviews and have final call on draft day. They'll then hire a new Asst GM.

I'm totally OK with that. Whaley is a comer. My only concern is that he gets hamstrung by Littman. But Buddy's been given an open checkbook so hopefully that will continue.

Excellent post.

No need to get personal.

When have I ever been mean to you?

Wasn't trying to be mean to you San Jose. Just making an analogy. The "you" I referred to was figurative not literal.

he writes a blog

if you had the time ,you could do it too

He does it for the buffalo news. He isn't treated as Joe blogger - hence several jumped on his tweet as credible.

Tim Graham returned to The Buffalo News in 2011 after covering the NFL for three years at ESPN and for one year at the Palm Beach Post. Before that, the Cleveland native spent seven seasons on the Buffalo Sabres beat for The News and was president of the Boxing Writers Association of America.

I think the opposite. They aren't ready to talk. Question is, why? Something is brewing and they'd rather say nothing.

They never would have made it to 4 straight Super Bowls with an attitude like that.

And by chasing their tails trying to catch a glorious PAST they will never make it to another Super Bowl. Times change. This organization needs new ideas, fresh faces, not Thurman Thomas' cryptic tweets.

That would be fine, but then why let the media folks hang out to dry all day for nothing? Of course, it could have been nothing more than a few cranky reporters tired of sitting around and making a mountain out of a molehill to Schopp. I guess I just don't trust Ralph's Brandon/Littman/Whomever Circle of Trust to handle things correctly.

(The news release not referring to the coaching staff was a bit weak, though.)

Kevin, I was just kidding.

I thought it would be funny to criticize your post about living in the 90's by citing the 90's.

i mean... am i the only one that thinks TG should be held to a bit higher standard than:

"buddys meeting with ralph" pause - a few minutes later "actually brandons meeting with ralph - someones about to get canned"

he is an actual reporter after all.

I am kinda with you, though at this point it seems like everyone is just speculating.

A pick at the top of the second round is close enough to the first round that it had better be a hit. Period. And Nix whiffed bigtime on that pick.

Try defending the following dubious personnel decisions:

- Selecting Torrell Troup when Buffalo native Rob Gronkowski was on the board (went to the Pats with the very next pick)

- Selecting Maruc Easley when Aaron Hernandez was on the board (went to the Pats 6 picks later)

- Selecting a "kickoff specialist" John Potter in the 7th around rather than take a flyer on a high quality free agent like Vontaze Burfict, when LB was the weakest position on the team. Burfict is playing very well for the playoff-bound Bengals.

- Failing to take a developmental QB, passing on Andy Dalton, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Brock Osweiler to name a few.

- Trading for Travaris Jackson and not activating him for a single game, all the while paying him $3M+ to sit.

- Making a waiver claim on Shawne Merriman, whom the Chargers deemed expendable, signing him to an extension, and ignoring the LB position in subsequent drafts.

- Having a big, physical 6-5 220 point receiver Danario Alexander in for a tryout after the David Nelson injury only to determine that the team was better off with a scrub like Ruvell Martin. Alexander went onto catch 7TDs in 10 games for the Chargers.

Talent evaluation is a major weakness and has been for quite some time. Nix should be retained as a scout, but he should definitely not be retained as a general manager.

Troup over Gronk is an obvious one, a reach possibly forced by the switch to the 4-3, but taking the millionth case of taking anything other than the best player really hurting the long term strength of roster talent.

I'm with you on Dalton/Kaepernick over Williams and a few others, but the later round ones are nitpicking and no team hits on them consistently. He also has a lot of good picks in there, and hasn't been here long enough to have a final verdict on some.

I'm indifferent on him right now. I'm not really confident that his substitute will do a better job than he will and I value a little stability. I think he gets it conceptually, I think his overall talent judging is actually pretty good.

I think he probably went with needs a couple of times, and he probably thought that Dalton/Kaepernick were not much better than Fitz over a few seasons, and while I disagreed at the time and clearly still do, it doesn't seem like an impossible evaluation of two QBs who every team in the NFL decided were not first round talent (while Ponder and Gabbert and Tebow were across other drafts).

Oh. Sorry. My sense of humor doesn't seem to be working right.

The coaching's been so bad that I can't begin to evaluate any of these drafts. How can anyone say whether we have talent or not? Look at the standings. If these players turn out to be the same quality of the Nix coaches, we're really in trouble!

+1.

Remember, Spiller got 74 rushes as a Rookie, 107 in his second year, and even this year still just 207. That's 388 in three years, while Alfred Morris got 325 this year as a rookie 6th rounder. People thought Spiller was a bust after two full seasons (I wasn't one of them). Hard to know, but I think that our roster is a lot more talented than when Nix got here. I'm happy to turn over the GM duties to a stud HC if needed, but I'm very open to Nix staying otherwise.

Why do they "owe" the media anything? I don't get the love affair with the hacks that cover this team. We have the worst collection of reporters in a major sports market. Read any other paper in a real news market and these hacks can't sharpen the pencils for copy editors in NYC, Boston, Philly, Chicago, LA... You get the picture. A real journalist wouldn't hang out without some assurances of a presser. If there wAs no presser, it's their fault for hanging it. This board loves the fact that some guys like Wawrow troll here because you think it makes this board credible but it actually makes these guys lack credibility.

So I guess the team is obligated everyday to tell the media there are no press conferences?

When Nix said he wanted continuity and not change, which meant he supported keeping Gailey for at least another season he lost my support. How can anyone honestly think going 4-12, 6-10 & 6-10 is making progress? Maybe it is progress by Bills standards. Nix needs to retire or just go away.

I didn't suggest the Bills "owe" anything to the media, but they have a mutually beneficial working relationship that is hopelessly intertwined with one another. It is common professional courtesy, and if it weren't so common, I don't think these particular reporters would have expected what amounts to a simple "heads up".

I'm not sure what your rant is about concerning "credibility" or media idolatry. It's not relevant to anything I posted.

Not his job. Especially without major qualifiers attached.
