where's the bills in all this

I get the sense that the repeated claims that the Bills were a "token" interview and were/are not serious contenders means one of two things: 1) it's true, or 2) the "radio silence" by the Bills organization means the reporters are making assumptions.

I'm leaning towards 1) it's true, because info is leaking from Kelly's camp as well, and there's been nothing to suggest Buffalo is really in it. But we'll know soon enough, and then one way or the other, the Bills will have a coach.

On a related note regarding how Chip is apparently handling all this:

From Jason La Canfora:

On Chip Kelly, to reiterate, he is calling the shots here. Phil Knight is always on the other line. He left the Bucs at alter a year ago...

and

It'll be close and done when there's a signed agreement, and he informs Oregon he's leaving. Until then, no one knows.

Those are 2 tweets from Saturday.

OK, now THIS is interesting. I'm told by league source Eagles still planning to meet tomorrow with McCoy and Marrone. So there's that.

No choice on McCoy - it's tomorrow or never. Can't pass just for the Kelly possibility

Also - it pressures chip.

I have decided that I have read or heard nothing which suggests the Bills don't have as good a shot at Kelly as anyone.

That may in fact not be the case, but we don't know that at this time.

There is too much conflicting or flat-out bad information out there right now.

And we do have a legit source quoting a "league source" saying Kelly is playing hardball trying to use the teams' offers against each other.

If that is true, I would say it is impossible to indicate how this will unfold, who is a front runner, or who doesn't stand a chance.

Of course. It's funny that reporters will report something of this nature as if it's some kind of shocking definitive statement. It's due diligence, and just a part of the puzzle.

That's as fair as anything, especially considering how little inside information the usual suspects in the national or local media seem to have regarding the Bills decisions. See: Chan Gailey, Buddy Nix, Mario Williams, et al. I'm just being pragmatic.

I'm thinking at the last minute he bails and goes back to Oregon and gets whatever it is he's after. Money or more control or whatever. Either that or he over plays his hand and no one makes him an offer.

So Kelly likely has offers from Lurie & Banner. Eagles & Browns keeping other options open until CK decides [or stays at Ore]. Makes sense.

Can confirm that meeting in Phoenix with Eagles and Kelly has ended after nine hours.

again....browns meet for 7 hours...eagles meet for 9 hours......bills meet for 25 mins? come on man....

It may very well have been a "token" interview, what's in question is on who's part.

Clearly La Canfora is suggesting there is a certain air of unpredictability to Chip. I guess he could return to Oregon, having used all this as leverage in Oregon to get more of what he wants there. But I don't see that being very likely.

This guy needs to be careful. You don't let it be known that you have decided it's time to make the jump to the NFL, jerk a bunch of NFL front office chains, and then retreat back to college...if you ever actually want to work in the NFL.

Do we actually have any confirmed source indicating the length of the Bills interview?

I am under the impression it was somewhat brief, but I don't recall reading anything that actually stated how long it lasted.

I'm getting the feeling the Browns and Eagles are offering a degree of personnel control and our FO has wisely pulled out of the running. While I'm on board with him as our coach, there is so much working against him just in that role that I think him being pseudo-GM on top of it is altogether too much.

Not a single hint. But the interview was "confirmed" to be over approximately half an hour after it was revealed they were meeting. Then, assumptions were made.

And now here we are.

Exactly what I was thinking. If his intent is really to leverage Oregon, he's playing a dangerous game of chicken with the NFL which just may close that door to him for quite a while. He also runs the risk of the bloom coming off the rose in college. If he's going to make the jump, this seems like the time.

What's funny is that prior to any interviews taking placed, it was "revealed" that Kelly did not require personnel control, and also strongly hinted that Cleveland was holding off on hiring a GM because they were open to giving him as much control as he wanted.

Up is down, left is right, right is wrong.

me either...and Adam Schefter stated it was a GOOD interview with the bills....maybe....chip is using the eagles and browns to hike the price up by hanging around with them the longest....

another good piece of evidence here......i don't think chip wants to go to the browns/eagles without a gm that has the same vision as him...

russ preaches analytics...forward vision....letting everyone do their jobs....

how does this not match folks?!?!?!

another item...he's friends with billy boy...neither guy likes to tell anyone anything..blah press conferences...etc....

i can see the eagles and browns not wanting that as well...where buddy and russ are all over keeping things close to the vest at all times...

Well, the Browns match this more than the Bills, arguably. They've already hired a new President in Alec Scheiner that has utilized football analytics in the NFL (with Dallas), and he'll be hiring at least one major specialist in that regard. The Bills willingness to head in this direction is positive, but it's not an advantage over Cleveland.

EDIT: Another thing that gets left out is that Joe Banner is very close with Kelly's agent David Dunn. Jim Overdorf is good friends with agent Drew Rosenhaus, and apparently this was instrumental in Terrell Owens signing in Buffalo.

What about the report that suggested Kelly would make his decision by the end of Saturday?

I guess he still has a little bit of time to make that come true, but it looks like he is not going to decide anything on Saturday.

So he apparently needs more time than was originally thought.

I don't know which organization that favors, but it suggests the original story that he is on his way to Cleveland may not necessarily be true. Which in turn could favor anyone who is not Cleveland, like the Bills.
