26CornerBlitz Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 So, you're saying there's a chance? Kelly is going to reconvene with the Browns tonight after he interviews with the Eagles some time today. I'm guessing that we'll hear that he's settled on the Browns soon thereafter.
BringBackFergy Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) Honestly, as much as I like Kelly, the guy is getting a bit overrated. Oregon was a very good program before he even got there. With all this hype, it's going to be tough for him to live up to it. But since he's the hottest candidate and very innovative, it would be a nice tip in the cap if the Bills got him. But it's not the end of the world if we don't get him either. I agree Biscuit. Despite being a very successful coach in the PAC 10 for four years...he was running back coach for New Hampshire for about 10 years and a coordinator with some Ivy League school for a number of years. Not sure how all of a sudden he is highly coveted with that resume'....sounds like flash in the pan to me but I wish him well. His first lesson in the NFL will be: everyone is fast....and everyone is conditioned. So, you're saying there's a chance? Yes Lloyd What's the soup du jour?? Edited January 5, 2013 by BringBackFergy
papazoid Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 philly will NOT be meeting with Kelly.... Kelly was also supposed to meet with Philadelphia. However, a person familiar with the interviews says the Eagles are ''heading in another direction.'' The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team isn't discussing its negotiations publicly. The person added the Eagles planned to interview several other candidates regardless of any conversations with Kelly. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/source-bills-still-interview-broncos-001605040--nfl.html

Bangarang Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Seems destined to go to Cleveland and doesn't want to burn bridges by blowing off us and the Eagles.
eball Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I forgot about the Spiller issue...I hope he runs some track in the off season Excuse me, the "Spiller issue" is a non-issue; Spiller himself refuted any claims his conditioning is a problem. I still recall the Miami Thursday nighter when he was inexplicably off the field in the red zone, tried to get in the game, and was pulled back. Chan buried himself with the bizarre misuse of CJ -- the next coach won't make that mistake.
Fadingpain Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Seems destined to go to Cleveland and doesn't want to burn bridges by blowing off us and the Eagles. My thoughts exactly. Sounds like he is meeting with teams other than the Browns simply as a courtesy. And I suppose it's only prudent to meet with everyone at least long enough to find out if they will pay 10 zillion dollars.

Just a thought.

They probably know it is just for show. And that Kelly has pretty much decided on the Browns, therefore why make it appear you lost out on him. Bills should do the same. The more you stop and think about it, the more you have to question hiring him for the NFL. Is his offense fun and exciting to watch? Sure. Can other coaches watch tape and pick things up on it? Sure. I mean why does everyone think only Chip Kelly can run that up tempo style of offense? It not like he has smoke and mirrors. The main theory behind it has been around for years. Heck during the Bills glory days the K-Gun, used a similar principal. Keep our 11 guys on the field for an entire drive and make you keep your same 11 guys on the field. Do not huddle, call plays from the line of scrimage and make you stay in a base D.. The Bills would not use it all the time but when it was needed. Maybe to start the 3rd quarter if they were down. Or after they got a first down and a little momentum going. Kelly may have a lot of success, but his over all resume does not add up to handing him the keys to the vault. Need i remind you that Schneider did the EXACT same thing with Spurrier soon after buying the Skins. New owners of a struggling franchise want to show the fans they are going to change things drastically. They take gambles. Like i said earlier besides the Bills the Browns are due for a good HC. I hope Kelly can adapt to the NFL for their sake.

In fact the only reason I think I would want Kelly is to show we are relevant in the NFL, him being the hottest name(and that is not a good football reason and would probably hurt us in the long run). But with so many candidates interviewing and saying the want the job I think that actuallys show we are still very relevant and a place to come work.
Fadingpain Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 ESPN reporting Kelly's college career is done, and he will end up in Buffalo or Cleveland.
BuffaloRebound Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 ESPN reporting Kelly's college career is done, and he will end up in Buffalo or Cleveland. Even if Cleveland is the favorite, those are still decent odds he ends up in Buffalo.
Fadingpain Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Even if Cleveland is the favorite, those are still decent odds he ends up in Buffalo. The info. from ESPN happened not very long ago on Saturday morning. I find it encouraging. For the moment, it is better news than "Kelly has signed with the Browns." Though that news may break before this day is over.

Doc Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 There is nothing to those articles ... lol ... almost like a boiler plate so they don't have to write them over the weekend. Try this article.
BillsFanForever19 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) Try this article. Great read. Really good stuff. Everyone should really check that out. But I think what all of these reports are saying is that half of these guys are just trying to break stories. They're running "Reports" with very little information and then they're all coat tailing them. All it took was Buffalo sending out an official statement that they interviewed him and now there's a little backtrack. http://profootballta...chip-kelly-too/ Truth is, everything's so confidential around here and no one in the national media cares enough about us to investigate. We could have interviewed the guy for half the day yesterday and Cleveland the other half - and these talking heads wouldn't have even known the difference. Just a lot of hot air lately and it's kind of sad. In today's instant information age, everyone's trying to break a story and jumping the gun. I hope that's the case and we somehow end up with Chip. But, again, i'm trying not to get those hopes too high. Edited January 5, 2013 by BillsFanForever19
PromoTheRobot Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 ESPN said earlier that CLE was attractive to Kelly because they had a Richardson and a solid O-line. Well Buffalo has CJ Spiller and a solid O-line too. Did you ever think you'd see the top coaching candidate choosing between Cleveland and Buffalo? PTR
KOKBILLS Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Even if Cleveland is the favorite, those are still decent odds he ends up in Buffalo. I know Cleveland is heading in a whole new direction with their Franchise, and I think it's a good direction...But so are the Bills (minus Nix who I hope is not a freaking Albatross)...And I can't help but think that Kelly is looking at both these opportunities VERY closely...Because, again, he knows no matter what that Contract says if he does not show promise and win quickly all the hype in the world is not going to save him from his critics who believe he can't do the job in the NFL... So what I'm getting at is this...On paper, Roster-wise...The Bills hold up pretty well vs. The Browns...As bad as The Bills were at times last Season they went to Cleveland and thumped them pretty easily...Overall talent on Offense is heavily in The Bills favor IMHO...Especially if they get a decent QB...Cleveland's Defense was certainly better on the field than The Bills in 2012...But can anyone say they have definitively better talent on Defense? Cleveland Picks 6th, the Bills pick 8th...Cleveland has newer facilities...I'm certain the money is going to be about equal...etc, etc... It all comes down to what Kelly sees as being his best opportunity to win, and win fast,,,And it could very well be Cleveland...But like I said before it's not exactly clear-cut...These two Franchises are in similar places...What if Kelly loves Spiller and Stevie? You never know...
San Jose Bills Fan Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Try this article. This contradicts some of the other reports from last night and this morning. If true, it's a very significant development.
