Best Player Available Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Turner's name is coming up as an offensive coordinator, not as a head coach. He has generally excelled as an NFL offensive coordinator. He'd make a good OC in Buffalo.
SBUffalo Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Thanks for the update. I hadn't heard this in the other thread about Lovie. Can't tell if this is sarcasm, so I'll say you're welcome.
fridge Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Sign Lovie Smith so that you can (hopefully, and in a very roundabout way) sign Bird. Therefore valuing the safety position slightly above the head coaching the position. Well that's that then. Certainty something to think about.
bills1960 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I'd love it. Runs a 43 so there'd be no schematic changes. Players love him. Has actually won before unlike many of our prior coaches. As long as he gets a good OC to work along side him with play calling duties I'm all in for next year.
26CornerBlitz Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 He'd make a good OC in Buffalo. Lovie HC with Norv as OC would be good. Lovie previously worked in Chicago with Norv's brother Ron.
agardin Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I would have no problem with Lovie as the HC and Norv as the OC and for that matter Romeo Crenell as the DC.
Keukasmallies Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Have we always hired experienced head coaches with track records of consistent success, often in the face of adversity/ With apologies to Rob's House, I would ammend his comment to read, "Have we EVER...."
SBUffalo Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I still think the fit is perfect. Byrd's father could come with him on the staff to keep Byrd here, Lovie is a great defensive guy, he has had success before and has a strongly winning record. Just make sure you get a good offensive mind to go along with him.

San Jose Bills Fan Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 http://www.nfl.com/n...-buffalo-bills? Lovie interested in Bills HC job. Could be the start of a Lovie courtship. Sorry. That's the best I could come up with.
26CornerBlitz Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) Could be the start of a Lovie courtship. Sorry. That's the best I could come up with. I'll bet he and Rod Marinelli would get the most out of our D-line and Byrd/Gilmore would thrive under these two. Desperately need LBs as we all know. Edited January 1, 2013 by 26CornerBlitz
ALF Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I'am all for Lovie Smith, Head Coach here. He's the best available ,good record, good person.
JoeF Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 If its Az and the Bills -- you have to consider that Bidwell still wants to see if Kolb is serviceable and the Bills will allow their coach to choose a QB without regard to Fitz's contract. Advantage Bills. Lovie has a really good staff in place from top to bottom. Most folks pan Mike Tice -- but he will use Spiller -- he knows the line positions and the TE position. Marinelli can coach and motivate -- the biggest focus will be upgrading the MLB and WillLB positions. I think Bradham can play. We would likely get Rusty Jones back.
SBUffalo Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Let me just layout the MANY reasons we should hire Lovie Smith: 1. The obvious- He's a great defensive mind. We have a lot of talent and money on defense, he could help that workout. 2. He has had past success (81-63 in his career in Chicago). One SB appearance, one appearance in the NFC Champ game. 3. The Jairus Byrd connection- Byrd's father worked with Lovie in Chicago and could join Lovie in Buffalo which would lockup Jairus in Buffalo. 4. The reaction by the players in Chicago has been VERY strong with his firing, showing that Lovie has the lockerroom. 5. He could do what a lot of coaches do and bring some talent with him. Henry Melton is a FA, big time player. Brian Urlacher could potentially look somewhere for a two-year deal, he'd be a perfect stop-gap for Buffalo and he could teach the young defensive players how to play. Devin Hester could replace Mckelvin, he was PISSED today. Jason Campbell could be a good backup he brings. 6. He actually WANTS to come here. So he would be happy at his new job and confident. You need a confident coach that wants to be there.
scribo Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) http://www.nfl.com/n...-buffalo-bills? Lovie interested in Bills HC job. I think Reid gets the gig in Arizona... Edited January 1, 2013 by scribo
DallasBillsFan1 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Per ESPN Chicago: Lovie Smith has been contacted by four teams interested in having him interview for a head coaching position, a source told ESPN. No interviews are being set up at the moment because most teams are talking to assistants who are available and coaches who are involved with the bye week of the playoffs. Those teams are expected to contact Smith later to set up formal interviews, the source said.
Bring Back Kelly Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000120661/article/lovie-smith-targets-arizona-cardinals-buffalo-bills? Lovie interested in Bills HC job. Beat me to it. Great post
Saint Doug Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000120661/article/lovie-smith-targets-arizona-cardinals-buffalo-bills? Lovie interested in Bills HC job. I found some kind of misprint or mistake in the above article: "Both those teams [the Cards and the Bills] have legitimate defensive talent already in place"
