jethro_tull Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I would drool if those three came to take over. That'd be a new era for sure. yes, the bears had the only trilogy of head and former head coaches! Please NO! New Orleans isn't in the market for a coach. did anyone yet mention that lovie should bring back rusty jones yet? i'm too lazy to read the ENTIRE thread again. if not, you heard it here first. forgot to mention that i am going to send a thank you note to bears GM Phil Emery thanking him for the Lovie fire.
yall Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 A friend spotted Lovie at the Big Tree earlier today. I didn't realize he was in town. I'm warming up to the idea. I was hoping for Kelly, but I like the idea of LS being less of a disciplinarian and more of a teacher seeking self- motivated individuals.
MRW Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Sorry -- I haven't read through all 17 pages of this thread. So I apologize if the topic has already been discussed, but my big concern about Lovie Smith is the collapse of the Bears this season. I read that as a sign the team gave up on him. So who is as fault: Smith or the team? Any thoughts? Their collapse - to 10-6? They went 3-5 in the second half of the season, which is not great, but I'd hesitate to describe it as a collapse. If you need to pin it on something, I'd point to injuries and a tougher schedule. Every team they lost to this year is in the playoffs.
BobbyC81 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 @AndrewSiciliano Lovie Smith should be as coveted and viable a candidate as any of the fired coaches. Give him an OL and he wins quickly. All you need is Lovie!! Wa wa wa wa wa! All you need is Lovie!! Wa wa wa wa wa! All you need is Lovie Lovie! Lovie is all you need Lovie is all you need Lovie is all you need
thewildrabbit Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Just do it.... My take is fans are getting their hopes up to high, after all Love is a winner per his record 81-63.
buffalo1983 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 i havent read all the post on here and dont know if someone has posted this but what about if we do get Lovie, if Urlacher would sign here for atleast 2years and still try and draft Mantie Te'o play along side of him?
sodbuster Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 i havent read all the post on here and dont know if someone has posted this but what about if we do get Lovie, if Urlacher would sign here for atleast 2years and still try and draft Mantie Te'o play along side of him? Thats what I said. I'm glad you think so too. He's gotta have some tread left. And Chicago has already said they wont re sign him.
K D Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 If we get Lovie I think we get urlacher and Hester too A friend spotted Lovie at the Big Tree earlier today. I didn't realize he was in town For real? First I've heard that. Isn't all of our front office in Arizona? Not sure why Lovie would be in buffalo

DrDawkinstein Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) If we get Lovie I think we get urlacher and Hester too No thanks to Urlacher. He is old and broken, unless we're going to hire him as only the LB coach he wont play much for us anyways. And we already have plenty of high-priced Kick Return specialists that dont have a real position on the team, so no thanks to Hester. Edited January 4, 2013 by DrDareustein
Buffaloed in Pa Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I believe a lot of you are undervaluing Lovie Smith. The guy is an excellent coach and leader who generally has his teams over-achieving IMO. They consistently play hard. The guy took a team to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman as the QB for God's sake. Add a good o-c and he will shine. Oh yeah forgot about a Q.B.
Chicagoan Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 No thanks to Urlacher. He is old and broken, unless we're going to hire him as only the LB coach he wont play much for us anyways. And we already have plenty of high-priced Kick Return specialists that dont have a real position on the team, so no thanks to Hester. agreed. you don't want either one. as much as I have loved Urlacher over the years, he never came back from that knee injury last year. my grandmother is faster than he is now. as for Hester, they RUINED him when they tried to make him a WR. that was an epic fail, but paying the guy $41 million, I guess they had to try.
26CornerBlitz Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 @caplannfl Lovie Smith should get more attention going forward. Can't blame him for poor OL play/personnel. Best available candidate other than Kelly.
NastyNateSoldiers Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I'd take Lovie+Norv Turner..... this combo works for me, and on the plus side we wouldn't have to worry bout Norv leaving cause he will never be a head coach again.
voodoo poonani Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Q: Are Marinelli and Horton still under contract with their teams as coordinators? If so, is it only possible to jump to a new team with a promotion (like "assistant head coach")?

If so, is it only possible to jump to a new team with a promotion (like "assistant head coach")? Horton and entire defensive staff were retained by the Cardinals. Not sure where Marinelli stands.
Heels20X6 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Spoke to my friend on the Bears D...to a man, he is absolutely crushed that Lovie was fired. The team genuinely would walk through fire for him. He apparently is an amazing defensive-minded coach but he lacks the ability to nail down a good OC. Had he had one early in his run, he'd be looking at a few Super Bowls. Hiring Martz on his recommendation was his poison pill.
BillsGuyInMalta Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Ugh. I can't stand how perfect Lovie Smith is for this team and how we are clearly going in Whisenhunt's direction.
MILFHUNTER#518 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Ugh. I can't stand how perfect Lovie Smith is for this team and how we are clearly going in Whisenhunt's direction. totally and unequivocally agree, very frustrating. with a good oc and a good draft and if the rumors are true that we would get a bunch of his staff from chi-town, we would be sitting pretty challenging the patricheats for the AFC East...
