Now this I can buy. Thanks! I thought his rise was because he was "a chip off the old block" so to speak. If he just got handed the keys to daddy's car because of who he is I don't want him either. I just look at the Colts path compared to The Bills path in that same time frame and had to assume with has fathers guidance he is better than what we have. I will check out those drafts. My reasoning for the Polian duo is that they could hopefully land a big named coach more easily. I also heard they have been seen at One Bills drive recently. Chris could be horrible and you definitely have more knowledge about it than I do. thanks.

Awesome!!!

What Big name coach has he been able to land over his career in the NFL? Dungy was fired from Tampa and brought to the Colts, then replaced by one of his assistants when he retired, Levy wasn't a big name coach in the NFL when he came to Buffalo either. Outside of Buffalo and its fans, Polian hasn't reached the same elite legendary status as everyone here has of him (Just to clarify, I'm not saying people don't think he was a good GM around the NFL, just not as legendary as Buffalo fans do where his presence would lead to Big name coaches lining up to take the job here)

They Definitely were not a one man team when we lost to them... Their defense is much better than advertised.

they also swapped from a 43 to a 34 this year and traded out a lot of pieces. the defense you see is not designed by polian, though some of the players are held over.

he definitely has had a lot of success but the last couple of years (when chris was put in charge more) were not good.

Alright here is the team say what you will but Chris could make a name for himself in the same market his father did. They all know that talent that has been assembled here now they just need the coaching and management team to get them playing the way the should be....

So all they need is better coaching and management, and then you go on to state that they need major upgrades at the QB, WR and LB positions. Huh?

in fact, his long tenure with an organization that didnt produce good young coaches probably leaves him a bit outside the loop. he doesnt have long working relationships with many of the hot names - something they may in fact really be looking for. could he get a good coach? sure. Will the best of the best be knocking down his door? probably not, but perhaps i am missing a relationship over the years.

I think he and Gruden have developed a relationship at ESPN. I don't think that can be overlooked as they are both employed there in some capacity.

So is everyone elses when they play the Bills

Sad but very true.

but I think they could win with Fitz and an addition at LB and a true number one WR. They have a full draft to get those things.

Just because they both work for ESPN, doesn't mean Gruden would follow him to a coaching job away from his sweet booth job on MNF.

LOL...In my opinion, Irsay planned all along to throw the season in order to draft Luck...his pre- season tweets about "big things" in store for the team gave us a hint to this strategy.I would not judge Bill Polian's work based on that one year. Look at his resume. He's a winner.

irsay blew several early draft picks on purpose in the years prior, then injured nearly every important player on offense and defense?

Weren't those quotes made prior to this year and in regards to the Vontae Davis trade?

I think their is alot more to these Hybrid 4/3 3/4 schemes than is credited. I think someone like Darren Perry coming from an attacking style like Green Bay could transform this Defense quickly with one more piece. Tao!!

Fair enough but it does at least give them a little closer liason than previously was credited.

So when Saint Polian takes over, when does Luck/Manning get here?

Yup, a 1 time Super Bowl winning GM. He is probably the most popular Bridesmaid though, 7 appearances in the big game (over a 20 year career in the game) with only one Lombardi to show for it, yet the fans in Buffalo would run over their own children if it meant he would come back here........

As I said in another post, if they planned on throwing the season in order to get luck, why did they fire Saint Polian then? He is the greast GM to ever live and breathe the game

Lets see how you like it if he's GM of the NY Jets. I would bet he will succeed there if hired. He may not be the best GM ever, but He's the best GM the Bills EVER had.

espn is a huge complex. their working relationship, and the type required in a situation like this typically is not assured by having a paycheck from the same company. many of these coaches want final say in personnel moves, and a guy like gruden may have the ability to essentially pick his own GM if he decides to allow one.

these two have few to no ties in their football backgrounds. its possible that along they way they have built that relationship/respect at a distance, or maybe they do sit at the same lunch table at ESPN but.... its not an obvious connection on the surface.

yes, also true. i didnt catch it in my reply but i bet you are right that he is referring to that.

He did tweet about the davis trade, but he also made statements before the 2-14 season about big things in store. I certainly didn't see anything big about that season except the fact they would be able to draft the best QB to come out in years.

You make great points. I was simple playing six degrees of Tony Dungy because everyone around here thinks that is how Jon Gruden wins titles..

I don't recall that.

He rose through their front office due to nepotism, reportedly is extremely arrogant and not good to work with, is the reason he and Bill were fired this past offseason, and he's not very good at his job. Look at the Colts drafts from 2009-2011.

And the bills draft ? Has done what except lose

But hey I hear Tom Donahoe and Moobs Williams are available once his litigation is over...more our speed in B-Lo don't you think?
