Fezmid Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Buffalo's defense was ranked #2 in the league (#7 vs the run, #3 vs the pass). CW
mead107 Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 hope we get better next year . win more games for us
BillnutinHouston Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 2nd ranked defense and we end up in the number 20 draft position. Thanks Drew.
Fezmid Posted January 5, 2005 Author Posted January 5, 2005 2nd ranked defense and we end up in the number 20 draft position. Thanks Drew. 193779 Why must the Crusaders turn *every* topic into an anti-Drew one? CW
scribo Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Here, a crusade-free post --- It is pretty sad that our D has been league's best defense over the past two years (bar-none) and we still managed to lose, what, 16 games? Something is wrong and it isn't the defense. Add in that our kickoff returner is a pro bowler, our special teams scored a record number of return TDs this year. Oh, yeah, and our running back ran for more than 1,000 yards in only 12 games. Oops, and our D had as many take aways as any other team in the NFL. Something is wrong and it isn't the D, the special teams or the running back.
IDBillzFan Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 No offense, ladies, but Fez is kinda right here. I was very pleased to see we are able to have a #2 defense overall. It's quite an accomplishment and something the team should be proud of. We've definitely taken steps forward in many areas. We have to take steps forward in other areas. But you have to be pleased with the defensive output of this team. Look at the number of turnovers we finally got. I remember when we screamed about a lack of turnovers. Look at the number of sacks. Look at the development of Kelsay. And Mike Williams. Oh, wait. Bledsoe cost us the SB. Nevermind.
ch19079 Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 good thing they dont count penalties in that stat. 3rd and 10 illegal contact or pass interference, or late hit on QBs. all frustrating.
34-78-83 Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 just to add, we were #2 overall, #1 in takeaways, and #3 in sacks. Ouch!
jayg Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 We finished 8th in the most important, points against, category. 7 of the top 12 teams in Total defense did not make the playoffs and 6 of the top 12 teams in Scoring defense did not make the playoffs. 2 of the top 12 teams in total offense did not make the playoffs and 2 of the top 12 teams in Scoring did not make the playoffs. I'm not implying anything by posting, just thought they were interesting. It's obvious the first 4 games of the season killed us and yet we still had a chance to make the playoffs. NEXT YEAR!
Fezmid Posted January 5, 2005 Author Posted January 5, 2005 We finished 8th in the most important, points against, category. I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at the fact that the past several years when were WERE 1st or 2nd in points against, people posted and said, "Yeah, but we finished Xth in the most important stat, turnovers!" CW
ganesh Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 2nd ranked defense and we end up in the number 20 draft position. Thanks Drew. 193779 This 2nd rank is quite misleading as it was 5 years ago with the Flutie and the boys. We are 2nd in total # of yards yielded. There are so many things that go into consideration as to what makes a defense very good 1. # of points given 2. total yards per attempt 3. # of turnovers 4. # of sacks 5. 3rd down completeion rate. I think we were ok in 2, 3 and 4, but pretty average in 1 and 5. However this defense except for lapses during crucial times, especially against teams that will punish you for those lapses" has been pretty good, but they have to take the blame as much for this as Bledsoe. Bledsoe was given the running game and the receivers to catch the ball, but failed miserable....A completion rate of 57% is simply not acceptable.
RickJames Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Buffalo's defense was ranked #2 in the league (#7 vs the run, #3 vs the pass). CW 193758 #2 just means we are the first loser. I blame Bledsoe.
Mantis Toboggan M.D Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 I think defense should be ranked in points allowed per game. Not in total yardage.

Sorry
pkwwjd Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 We need to develop a defensive rating -- much the same as the QB rating -- that takes into account: 1. total D yards 2. Takeaways 3. negative yards (inc. sacks) 4. yards per play (which we dominated this year, no one even tied) 5. points allowed 6. drive lengths given up 7. three and outs

Sorry I do not have the URL.
