Roger Goodell Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 In my defense, I was on my third martini when I spouted off that idea.
MikeSpeed Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Let's just change the name of the game from football to airball. Heck we already apply the foot to the ball less than a quarter of the plays. All the NFL wants to see is the ball in the air.
Tu-Toned Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 In my defense, I was on my third martini when I spouted off that idea. Oh, a light night for you eh Roger?
FireChan Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Let's just change the name of the game from football to airball. Heck we already apply the foot to the ball less than a quarter of the plays. Drop Kick Flutie Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 It's called football because the ball is 12 inches long..... It's called football because back in the day they called everything you play while running with a ball football to differentiate it from games played on horseback
1B4IDie Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 It's called football because the ball is 12 inches long..... Is that true? I've never heard that before? This thread is blowing my mind!
Drop Kick Flutie Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Is that true? I've never heard that before? This thread is blowing my mind! Not true, it was called football before we had the modern dimensions http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/06/the-origin-of-the-word-soccer/ Just as intriguing, for those who like to lambaste American Football being called such when the ball interacts primarily with hands, most of the earliest forms of Football were named thus, not because you kicked a ball with your foot, but because they were played on foot. Peasants played most of their sports on foot; aristocrats played most of theirs on horseback. Thus, games played on foot were called “football”, whether they had anything to do with kicking a ball or not. Indeed, many of the earliest forms of football involved carrying balls in an attempt to get across goal lines passed some opposing team or individual players.
DrDawkinstein Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Drop Kick Flutie? More like DROP KICKING KNOWLEDGE!
HOUSE Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Eventually the lawyers and the risk of injuries will kill the game. Lets just move on to flag football and get it over with now....
tombstone56 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 lol after i told my wife what goodell suggests, her question was great!!!.is he smoking the same as obama because thats just plain stupid, her words !
RyanC883 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Onside kicks in the NFL are successful 26% of the time. It’s true, but it’s also very misleading. Onside kick success rates are very dependent on whether the receiving team is expecting one. When teams are expecting it, the success rate is about 20%. But when teams aren’t expecting it, the success rate averages 60%. http://www.advancedn...side-kicks.html the same folks analyzed 4th & 15.....and claim about a 20% success rate.... http://www.advancedn...udy-part-3.html well, that is interesting. Thanks for sharing!! But I still think it should be 4th and longer. Generally (not always), if you get yourself into a 4th and 15 the other defense contributed to that, and therefore is likely to stop you. However, following a scoring play, you scored because the defense did not stop you, so it is more likely that you covert those 4th and 15 plays.
reallysucks Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 In my defense, I was on my third martini when I spouted off that idea. Seriously. the idea sucks
Best Player Available Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Is it true that Goodell wants team captains to start exchanging a single red rose during the coin toss in 2013? This is becoming painful.
Captain Hindsight Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Eh its an idea. I dont like it much however. I appreciate that the NFL is trying to improve safety for the players, I really do. But the kickoff is my favorite play of the game, it just wouldnt be the same
marauderswr80 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I play full contact flag football....we take more pounding then NFL players!
iinii Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 You can't just give the team the ball on the 20 because it takes away the onside kick or the chance for a team to get the ball back when they are behind. what about a jump ball at the fifty?
Drop Kick Flutie Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 what about a jump ball at the fifty? Every team will start signing basketball centers, of current basketball players, Jimmy Graham would be best, maybe Gronkowski.
TheKickIsGood Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I could live with the new system. I could also live with just starting drives at the 30. I got other ideas about getting rid of field goals and extra points too.
benderbender Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Its as though Goodell sees players as unwilling participants in a brutal sport they had no idea of how to play their whole lives
Offside Number 76 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Its as though Goodell sees players as unwilling participants in a brutal sport they had no idea of how to play their whole lives It's as though certain plaintiffs' attorneys see players as unwilling participants, etc.
