My just turned 13 yr old daughter is swimming against Katie Ladecky in the 1650 today...and she has her sights set on putting that world record holder in her place! HAHA

Guess it is good I am in Boston and not in Richmond to witness the carnage. BTW, any Richmonders who want to see her swim ( Ladecky, not my kid lol)can go over to NOVA his morning, meet is free..see a world record holder swim her best event. 1650 should go around noon I think..

Today not so bad as while in the same event, she will not be in same heat. Couple of weeks time though, she will be in lane next to her in a dual meet, hoping not to get lapped in a 500.

Thx for the inquires gents. She swam quite well, getting a best time and getting beat by less than 90 seconds!!!!

Have a picture with the two of them together, but says to large to attach and I can't figure how else to post it.

So she lost? Cut her, get a new swimmer. /fan mentality

Seriously though ,very cool! :)

So Syd did not swim against her directly, but her relay beat Ladeckys relay...so technically my kid beat an Olympic Gold Medal Winner..HAHA.

One thing to say, high school swimming in the mid Atlantic Region not nearly as important as club teams. Lots of kids that swim 3 months a year, not very fast, but great team atmosphere. That is what is so impressive about Ladecky still making the trek to Richmond for a dual meet. sure she ad a 6 AM workout this morning then made the bus ride down to help her teammates.

Not only that, she counted the 500 for a teammate that , to be nice, was not a vey good swimmer. She took every photo/ autograph request with a niceness that I am not sure i would display. Audults loking for pictures of a teenager just kind of weirds me out.

Just a super example of what sports and Champions should be all about, and this girl is just 15. Her parents and coach need to write a book.

I was just about to ask if it was adults asking for photos and autographs or kids. That is strange.

If she was in just her swimsuit, yea. But if she's in some warm up sweats, etc, not so bad, because how often in your life are you going to have the chance to meet an Olympic Champion? I'm about halfway through my life and only had that happen once, Rulon Gardner, back in 2000. He put me in a headlock for the photo. Too bad the person taking it doesn't know how to operate a camera (film, not digital).

Glad yours had a good day!

Nice to hear that the Olympian is a good kid.

Love the wrestling mention. At wrestling camps I've met Gold medalists Dan Gable (did not give up a point in his Olympic matches), Tom Brands, and Cael Sanderson

Bronze medalists Terry Brands

(some were Olympians) NCAA/World Champions Joe Williams, Lincoln McIvary, Lee Fullhart, Mark Ironside, Jessie Whitmer, Jeff McGinniss, Jim Zalesky.

I have all of the 1998/1999 Iowa Hawkeye wrestling team autographs on a hat, and the 1998 team poster autographed by the entire team, hell my wrestling shoes are autographed by Gable.

Ran track in college with a few people who ran in the Worlds, and one in the Olympics.
