NoSaint Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) Y'know what I think? If a band "gives" a song to radio be played, I feel like they've given it to me and I can then download it free of guilt. I also think that if I've paid a band for their music on one format (vinyl for example), I don't have to pay for it again to get it in another format. Thus I can download mp3 versions of albums I have purchased. A lot of new vinyl comes with mp3 downloads. I've also seen a growing trend of "pay what you want" options. You set the price downloads. Not with the big names much though. Edited November 10, 2012 by NoSaint
birdog1960 Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Dude..that album rocks! Great singer. pokey lafarge, another rockabilly band, opened the show and sell vinyl 78's. felt kinda bad for them as they were very good but jd mcpherson's band brought down the house. didn't pick up pokey's album that night but i still might.
millbank Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 purchased Stratford Festival edition of the Twelfth Night., was a time such purchases as frequent as finances allowed, these days not so much. These days actually find myself enjoying peace and quiet in the home, value it greatly, again gone are the days of music always seemingly on in the background or on my ipod music player.
LewPort71 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Last vinyl I bought was a "Best of Beach Boys" album. CD.. "Dreams of Fireflies" By TSO. It is a 5 track EP for Christmas.
PaattMaann Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 paying for music....haha...love it.... havent done that since the invention of the internet
MDH Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 "Entropia" by Pain of Salvation Anyone who likes progressive metal/rock should give it a listen. I got turned onto them by a friend and am looking forward to listening to the rest of their stuff after I play this one into the ground.
Pete Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Last CD bought was Wilco the album on July 30 2009(amazon). I have two turntables, and am always on the lookout for vinyl. My last score was a bunch of Herb Alpert and Miles LPs. And I miss Demonoid! I guess I will have to checkout usenet

birdog1960 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 saw him this summer...he is very good! ...but i guess you might already know this because of my previous post about me seeing him.... no problem. i think he can use the word of mouth publicity seeing that he's only had 500 of the 45's pressed.
NoSaint Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 no problem. i think he can use the word of mouth publicity seeing that he's only had 500 of the 45's pressed. Often the vinyl pressings get used as a limited edition, almost collectible product these days.
The Poojer Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 this is from the show I saw him at....his whole set just brought the place to its feet... no problem. i think he can use the word of mouth publicity seeing that he's only had 500 of the 45's pressed.
The Poojer Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 timely rolling stone article.... http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/band-to-watch-jd-mcpherson-20121120
NoSaint Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 Also note: tomorrow record store day is doing a Black Friday roll out. Every April they do rare releases at independent stores nationwide - awesome stuff. Tomorrow if you head to a local shop you'll find huge numbers of 1 time release, ultra rare (sometimes the pressings are as low as 100 nationally) albums from all kinds of artists.
Simon Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I don't buy albums any more but I still buy quite a few songs. This last batch had a bunch of stuff from Trombone Shorty, Code Talkers, New Mastersounds, Primus, Railroad Earth and Lettuce.

NoSaint Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 I like Trombone Shorty. I'm surprised hearing the name here - I think he has great crossover potential. Super talented, young, REALLY charismatic, and starting to get a feel for what's mass marketable without totally selling out his brass roots. Not often a guy playing trombone has that potential, but I think he does.
Astrojanitor Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) Dinosaur Jr. - I Bet on Sky (vinyl) Me too actually. Just got in on Saturday. Already my favorite of the reunion albums. All of side 2, in particular the last 3-4 songs are mindblowing. Went on a record tear recently, bought about 25 LPs in the last week. Highlights are Guided By Voices: the bears for lunch, Tortoise: s/t, The Cure: pornography, Ry Cooder: paris, texas, Pengo: a nervous splendor, Go-Betweens: talluleh. Last cd bought was Nod: O Nod O Moon. Only buy a cd or two a year, usually only by local bands. Not a fan of the format. Mp3: would never occur to me. Why listen to horrible sounding music? Life is way too short for that. Edited November 23, 2012 by Astrojanitor
