The Poojer Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 that cowher was hell bent on beating TD and mularkey, short of playing his starters this was a huge game for the steelers and apparently we did not heed the warning. i don't buy into all the nonsense about us losing to 2nd and 3rd stingers. these guys are just guys that are good enough to play in the nfl, but are playing behind people not ready to give up thier spots yet. remember, th and wm were 2nd stringers, shuad williams is off the chart. these backups are simply waiting for thier opportunity to shine, and shine they did for pittsburgh yesterday

No matter how you look at it, we got beat by backups (and some third stringers).

I doubt they're the only two examples on the team. The Steelers aren't 15-1 by accident; they're a surprisingly - even frighteningly - deep team.

Ray Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I would have rather faced the rookie R'berger than Maddox because Maddox is a better passer! Staley was a starting RB last year and this season before injury. The offensive "backups" scored 6 points. The Bills beat themselves with penalties and turnovers and missed opportunities (28 yard FG).

I don't care what team you are.....if you 9 out of 11 of your starters are not in the game on one side of the ball, you should not be expected to win the game.....it should not even be close. Bledsoe should have been able to take advantage of this.....but he wasn't.

BTW, how's your diet going? Survive the holidays? Ever get that that beef roast?

They looked like well-prepared starters who came to play. "Backups" doesn't necessarily mean "!@#$-ups". Is it SO hard to accept that the Steelers are a good and deep team?

ajzepp Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 If anyone looked like backups, it was a defense that could not contain nine straight running plays when even Billy Buffalo knew they were going to run. 191423 LA, chances are the defense didn't give two ***** any more by that point......there was no friggin way we should have even been in that position.....the offense kept giving them a short field, and they (and you're damn right, by "they" I mean BLEDSOE) couldn't do anything against the JV Steelers. McGahee had 4+ ypc........you can argue that he needed more carries, but last I checked "they" had a tendency to audible out of running plays and into a pass. Either way, it certainly is not McGahee's fault.......The defense kept them out of the endzone after a short field several times in the first half against their starters........I'm sorry, but the offense should have had their way with this team and they crapped the bed. And yeah, when the running back performs well as Willis did yesterday, I place most of the blame on the QB.
DC Tom Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 If anyone looked like backups, it was a defense that could not contain nine straight running plays when even Billy Buffalo knew they were going to run. 191423 In the 4th quarter, right? Bills' offense put together, what, two drives all game? Three? By the time the 4th quarter came along, the defense was visibly tired, and probably couldn't stop traffic if you spotted them the traffic light. Were that nine straight runs in the first or second quarter, I might agree with you...
IDBillzFan Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 LA, chances are the defense didn't give two ***** any more by that point. 191437 That's the premise of your statement, and there is absolutely no way in hell I will believe that the defense decided to stop playing on that drive. Absolutely no way in hell. They got beat...plain and simple. And even if they did give up, do you not hold them accountable? Or you'll just give them a mulligan?

Granted the Steelers on the Field yesterday played well for 2nd and 3rd Teamers, but the Buffalo Bills did a FAR better job of beating themselves than the Steelers Back-ups could ever accomplish... Clements PR Fumble leads to a Pitt FG...Minus 3 Points. A missed chip shot FG by Lindell...Minus 3 Points. A Bledsoe Fumble returned for an easy TD...Minus 7 Points. That's 13 FREE Points the Bills spotted those 2nd and 3rd stringers, and when you spot any Team 13 points you're in trouble, let alone a Team who is arguably the best Coached Team in the AFC working on a 14 Game Winning Streak... There is no way I'm going to let the Bills off any hook by saying they lost to a great Team...The Pittsburgh Steelers are a very good Team this year...The Bills did not play that Steelers Team yesterday...The Bills have absolutely no one to blame but themselves for yesterdays embarassing Loss. Heck, our stellar Special Teams Unit gave the Steelers a 6 point swing on their own, and The Bills only lost by 5 points... No, this was not a simple matter of The Steelers being better or wanting the Game more. It was not a matter of Cower wanting to beat TD so badly he willed his Back-ups to greatness. It was simply a matter of the Bills blowing a golden opportunity gift wrapped for them...The Bills beat themselves yesterday in a million different ways. They simply choked...period...
