Well that's the stupidest thing ever. So everyone is just supposed to assume that their vehicle could be hit by a plane so when they stop they need to look for planes?

Having a vehicle road cross through a runway safety area, at an uncontrolled airport, is insanity.

The FAA certifies the Airports and the inspector should have required Airport management to either close the road to all traffic or reroute it far enough off the end of the runway to be outside the safety area. They're lucky nobody got killed!

But they had a dry erase board about the size of a post-it telling people to be careful.

and some worn away painted "STOP" on the road, instead of an actual red STOP sign on a post where people might see it.

Because Northwest Regional is a privately owned airport, any safety improvements are the sole responsibility of the owners. The FAA does not have jurisdiction.

WTF?

But if you think Northwest Regional airport's design is nuts, check out the airport in Gibraltar (bordering Spain):

There was a solid yellow line followed by a dashed yellow line. That is a standard airport marking to hold for clearance. I suspect the car was on a taxiway.
