Bill from NYC Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 That goes without saying. Every statistical study of the NFL draft has come to the conclusion that each pick on its own is a 50/50 coin toss. There is no advantage to picking 1st over 32nd as fas as finding a successful prospect goes. They only difference is the 1st pick has 31 more options of the 1000s of College Prospects. That doesn't mean you sit around with the coin up your arse. A good rule of thumb is when Cutler and Donte Whitner are available, you select Cutler (or perpaps 20 other players that were available in that great draft).

Ralph Wilson brought in Marv Levy to get the franchise back on track. Under the clueless but congenial former HC he made his first draft selection for the organization. According to Levy this was an organizational consensus pick. Marv stated a lot of thought and consideration went into that pick. Stupidity piled on top of stupidity! And the beat goes on! Sisyphean Bills Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Buddy doesn't trade draft picks to move up, but he will trade them for a QB in the last year of his contract and that the coach has no intention of ever putting on the field.
Kevin Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) Matt Barkley? Really? Matt freaking Barkley? Do any of these names ring a bell? Do they ring praise in ANY NFL circles? Matt Barkley, Mitch Mustain, Aaron Corp, Mark Sanchez, John David Booty, Matt Leinart, Carson Palmer, Mike Van Raaphorst, John Fox, Brad Otton, Kyle Wacholtz, Rob Johnson, Reggie Perry, Todd Marinovich, Shane Foley, Rodney Peete, Sean Salisbury, Tim Green, Kevin McLean, Scott Tinsley, John Mazur, Gordon Adams, Paul McDonald, Rob Preston, Rob Hertel, Vince Evans, Mike Sanford, Rob Hertel? Those are your USC Trojan QB's all the way back to 1975. NO TO MATT BARKLEY! Edited November 4, 2012 by Kevin
1B4IDie Posted November 4, 2012 Author Posted November 4, 2012 Doesnt matter who is playing QB. Its the obvious thing to do. Blame the QB. When this team isnt giving up 35-50 points a game then I will blame the QB. In fact the 3 games that the defense didnt allow an obsurd amount of points we actually won. Is Fitzpatrick going to be a hall of famer and multi time pro bowler? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Is Andy Dalton, Christian Ponder, Joe Flacco, Jay Cutler, Josh Freeman, Brandon Weeden, Matt Schaub, Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford, Alex Smith or Russell Wilson??? Absolutely not. But all of them have proven they can win games in the NFL with the right system or gameplan. Lets focus on our problems here. WE HAVE NO DEFENSE! Fitzpatrick made the decision to make the throw in the Titans game. Chan Gailey and the defense did not make that decision. This is the NFL being good for 14/15ths of the game is not good enough. It is very unlikely Andy Dalton, Christian Ponder, Joe Flacco, Jay Cutler, Josh Freeman, Brandon Weeden, Matt Schaub, Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford, Alex Smith or Russell Wilson would have made that stupid throw. It was the act of QB that doesn't know how to win games. It was clearly a poor decision pre snap and post snap. Fitz admitted to that in his post game interview. Yes the defense is horrible but you turn that play around to an incomplete pass elsewhere on the field or to a clearly from a pre-snap read to post-snap wide open TJ Graham. The Bills win that game. This is not horseshoes you don't get to be a close at being a good QB. You either are a winner or a loser. Fitzpatrick finds ways to lose games. You can't hang that on the defense or coaching. Those decisions Fitzpatrick makes when looking the pre-snap and making his reads. Yes the defense gets the Lion share of the blame for that loss, but we knew the defense couldn't stop the run before the game and we knew the Titans had Chris Johnson before the game. Fitzpatrick has to be smart in that situation to make the play to win the game, knowing the defense can't stop the City Honors Football team from scoring. He made a poor decision and turned a win into a loss. The job of the QB is turn losses into wins. What is the point here? The Bills, without trading up, were not in the position to draft a 1st round "Franchise QB" unless you count Cutler or Flacco on that list when it was their turn to pick in the NFL draft for the last 13 years.

And to irk you just a bit more, I heard Levy on Sirius right after the draft say that he had numerous trade down offers, and some were offering more than a 2nd round pick. FreakPop Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Fitzpatrick made the decision to make the throw in the Titans game. Chan Gailey and the defense did not make that decision. Kinda like the defense made bad decisions the WHOLE game that led to the Titans scoring 35 points and let CJ run for 200 yards and 2 scores? I don't think Chan or Fitz made those poor defensive decisions did they! Man, you are unbelievable!
BiggieScooby Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 There were a number of teams we could have traded up with to get a higher pick, think RGIII, 2004 draft,
Sisyphean Bills Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 The Bills only trade up for those John McCargo, JP Losman types.
Offside Number 76 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 With the defence in last place, it needs attention the most for now. To the extent that the defensive problems are personnel-related rather than systemic, they are more easily addressed during free agency or trades than the quarterback position is. That said, Fitz has played well enough to win five out of seven games.

The Irony is BECAUSE we traded up in 2004 we missed out on Aaron Rodgers in 2005.
Sisyphean Bills Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Keep reading: Also stop hugging Fitz' junk so hard. Its getting embarrassing for you. It is true that the last time Fitzpicks was the starting QB of a winning team was when he was with the Harvard Crimson.

I agree that Fitz made a poor decision on that throw. That's obvious to everybody who saw the play. But your point highlighted by the bold text is totally without merit and doesn't do anything to bolster your argument. Do we really have to pull up every stupid play all those QBs have made and will continue to make? GO BILLS!!!

Yes you do have to find every time the QBs mentioned threw an Int with 3 mins left in the game where their team had a 3+ point lead. That is going to be an extremely short list and be may be null. That level of incompetence doesn't happen often in the NFL. Atleast by players that are still in the NFL. Edited November 4, 2012 by Why So Serious?
nucci Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 And that was debatable up to late last year... Still is as he is not signed for next year.

So, do you wish to go on record as saying that none of the QBs you mentioned have ever thrown an INT in the final three minutes of a game? Even if everyone of those QBs was found to have done that, it wouldn't matter. You'd further narrow it down by home vs. road game or wearing dark jerseys vs. lighter ones or only while wearing pink-taped shoes during cancer awareness month or any other inane qualifier you can find. We get it. None of them are Fitz. But EVERY ONE of them has made bone-headed, mind numbing mistakes while playing QB in the NFL. And you know that. It's just a weak argument to suggest otherwise. thewildrabbit Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) Matt Barkley is the guy I want in buffalo. Finally someone can throw the deep ball Nothing like a Fitz clone to replace Fitz Same height and arm type, both very smart guys. His understanding of the USC offense is greatly under-appreciated. While he's not quite Andrew Luck, when breaking down Barkley it is clear he does so many of the "little" things well, like rolling either to his left or right and consistently firing accurate passes on the move or freezing the safeties by looking one direction and passing the other.. Some will knock his size, "average" arm strength or the fact that he has never faced SEC competition. While Barkley is a touch shorter than scouts would prefer, I've had numerous sources who saw him in person at the Manning Passing Academy tell me he showed greater zip than expected, though I'd like to see him improve his accuracy on the deep ball. http://www.cbssports...ayers/1664140 Scout.com has him ranked as the 20th best player There is also a bunch of draft sites that have Barkley going in the top 3, so the Bills drafting around #10 or so should have a better shot at Tyler Wilson....or will they consider him "not" an elite QB and draft a WR- RB-CB.. .
