ny33 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 “You’re only as good as the effort you put forth. I don’t care who it is,” said Kelsay. “I’d take Mario Williams at full health and full speed probably over anybody else in the league. At the same time I’d take Sean Ferguson, who we cut, over a guy that’s playing 50 percent, and I think our coaches would too. The playmakers have to make plays and the way you do that is giving all out effort every play.” http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-2/Chris-Kelsay-calls-defense-out-on-the-carpet/d40732e0-291e-44b5-9b31-b3cf1317bc68 I don't believe this was posted already, but, overall, it's a solid interview. It's funny how Kelsay is willing to call out the defensive effort and indirectly target individual players, while Chan refuses to call the team out for its effort: “Are there plays that guys don’t do 100 percent every snap? Yeah there are plays when that happens and you’ve got to correct that,” said Gailey. “It’s disturbing every time you look at it, but it goes on with every team at every level of football. It really does and you’ve got to squelch it and get everybody playing to the top 100 percent every snap. You just can’t take plays off. I’m not saying guys are taking plays off. I’m just saying we can lay out a little bit better at times.” No, Chan, I don't think the team "can (just) lay out a little better at times." Not only do you refuse to criticize Wannstedt's schemes or open up the possibility that his job is at risk (to get Wannstedt out of the booth and actively involved in adjustments on-field), but you refuse to admit that the team effort has been unacceptable. I understand that the head coach can't call out individual players, but the head coach can't also be meek and refuse to tear into the team for its effort. Chan has to go.
ALF Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 (edited) They need to get ready for next season, this one is lost. Let all the injured heal and give the backups experience so we have more depth. Let Mario stay out till his wrist is 100%. Sign Levitre and Byrd now before they walk away free agents. I like our offensive line when healthy, look what it does for the running game. I like Chan and Buddy, but the rest of the coaching staff , is that the best they can find? They need ex pro bowlers that can teach and motivate. Edited October 23, 2012 by independent

This came out on the Shout box and Kelsay was criticized for calling out his teammates in public, many comments that this should have been kept private My guess is that Kelsay has tried the private team meetings route and has tired of the lack of results. I'm sure Chan has different things to say to the team in private. The question is will they work
BringBackFergy Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 "Turn out the lights, the party's over"....let the infighting begin.
BuffaloBaumer Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 The fact that this is even being said tells me that this team is still light years away from competing . Seriously, this team is filled with a bunch of losers with a loser attitude. Coaching coaching coaching. A bunch of pansies too scared to call anyone out (coaches especially). This city needs the Bears

BillsFan-4-Ever Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 They threw a lot of money at the Defense and it hasn't lived up to it's potential and yes, Mario being one of them. I have yet to criticize Mario, but the reality is, injury or not we have not seen what we all expected.
