OK, it's waaaaay too early to talk about this but checking the standings, the Bills are currently the 6th seed due to tie-breakers over Cincy and Miami.

Who'd a thunk it :excl:

The Bills are currently in 4th place in the AFC East on a 4-way tie with all the tie breakers against them. How would they be a wild card ?

Bills would have the last wildcard spot.

Wins tie break over Cincinnati based on best win percentage in conference games. Division tie break was initially used to eliminate Miami (Buffalo wins tie break over Miami based on best win percentage in common games). /ESPN/

That's true--- strangely, playoff tiebreakers and division tiebreakers are not built on the same logic.

It's something that seemed to come up every year when the Bills were still mathematically in contention toward the end of each season from 2002-2008 or so.

This thread makes me realize how weak the AFC is this year.

Indeed. Houston and the Ravens are both fraud teams at the top right now, this would be a great year to sneak in & do some damage... providing the Bills improve during the season & are not a fraud team themselves, of course. Probably also providing somebody else knocks out the Pats first.

Bills r in 4th place in their division because their divisional record is 0-2. However, if the season were to end today, all 3 wild cards would be from the AFC East.

Hooray, mediocrity!

There are only 3 AFC teams above .500 at the moment, and this may drop to 2 (Texans, Ravens) if the Chargers lose to the Broncos tomorrow night. Perfect time for a mediocre team like the Bills to sneak into the playoffs.

Then what?

Then what?

Then the first game would have the Bills traveling to NE and losing, 386-2. (Yes, Brady feels sorry for the Bills and lays down for a safety in the 1st quarter with the score 143-0. Belicheat immediately benches him for the rest of the game)
