PearlHowardman Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Fitzpatrick's missing deep ball: The Buffalo Bills' offense is getting very predictable and easy to defend, in part because quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is struggling with the deep ball. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Fitzpatrick is one of the NFL's worst deep-ball passers. He is just 4-of-15 (26.7 percent) on passes more than 20 yards, which ranks 27th in the league. Three of Fitzpatrick's interceptions have also come attempting to throw the deep ball. He passed for a season-low 126 yards in last week's 45-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. If opponents do not respect the deep pass, it is difficult to get the passing game going underneath.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 It is obvious that Fitz has struggled on the deep ball. But, frankly, you don't need to throw deep to keep defenses honest. Brady rarely does. If he can get better on the 15-yard throws, including ones over the middle, the offense will be fine.
jkrules Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Not being able to throw the deep ball is one reason for this offense being very predictable. We need to open up the playbook and play to our strengths. 1 Run the ball with CJ and Freddie at least 30-35 times a game including on third down. 2. Throw in some reverses using Graham or CJ. 3. Throw out of the Wildcat, let's see Brad Smith throw it deep. 4. Use the tight end more. Chandler should have 6-8 receptions a game. There are ways to mask the weakness of your QB, can Gailey put in plays to do that is the question.
boyst Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Rewritting history is so easy to do, especially when you can blame it all on Fitz. His poor play on long passes is not something you can pin all the loses on. It is a factor, though. Fitz, along with any other QB, should not have to be in the position to have to complete 12-15 yard plays nearly every down. Through penalties setting us back, RB's behind the LOS, and sloppy play he is having a lot thrust on his shoulders. Ultimately, he cannot pick up and carry the loads he is being given. This problem is team wide. We are, or were, scoring points. The defense was giving those leads up. The last two weeks this team flat gave up.
clayboy54 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 What an enlightening piece of news. I would have never guessed it. All along I figured Fitz was the 2nd coming of Daryl "The Mad Bomber" Lamonica.

I would start C.J. and let Fred come in relieve or have them on the field together even. The D is not helping but keeping them off the field would help.
FitzShowUsYourTitz Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 If only he could throw the deep ball we would score 56 and win most games 56-53. All Fitz's fault.

We are not currently capable. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.
Buffalo Barbarian Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 http://espn.go.com/b...ord-afc-east-55 So true. if he is ranked 27, I'd hate to see who's after him.
HOUSE Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 So. it took ESPN 3 years to realize Fitz lacks the long ball?
Geno Smith's Arm Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 if he is ranked 27, I'd hate to see who's after him. That's what REALLY surprised me, I can't imagine being worse.
FanofFredJackson Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Fitz's play level has decreased in proportion to the new 59 million dollar contract he signed last year. With that sort of salary, Fitz better hope he can hang in there with Chan because he has certainly priced himself out of the QB market. There is not another NFL team that would pay him near that much, nor is there another NFL team in which he would be able to be a starter. Chan, Nix and the Bill's organization may have sealed their fate in the last three drafts and off-seasons for their failure to acquire and sign a quality QB to the team when the opportunity to do so was there.
Fan in San Diego Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 That's what REALLY surprised me, I can't imagine being worse. Never say that, it always can get worse.
Best Player Available Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 More useless dribble from the Dribble King James Walker. Hard to believe the dude is actually paid,
Hsp08 Posted October 14, 2012 Author Posted October 14, 2012 There you have it. Defense came to play today and Fitz almost blew the game. He needs to be replaced sooner than later.
