In defense of Ryan last night, he couldn't get into any details, since he couldn't get a third of a way through an answer without Biden calling "bull ****!"

 

He has quite a bit of time to talk, and gave nothing more than the boilerplate BS on every single issue. One after another.

 

Anyway this thread is hilarious, people debating whether the Kennedy comment was rehearsed? .... better chance the "send me a letter any time I'll entertain it" was rehearsed...and that was a good line.

Yes, you could say his plans are succeeding in spite of the opposition to his every move. Imagine how much better it could have been if he had true bipartisan support.

I think after rewatching it, the debate was not about details (even though that is what everybody wants, ar at least thats what they say) I think it was more a referedum on whether Jolting Joe and the Jelly Boy still had the fight and gumption to get back in the WH.... I think Ryan could have been more animated and he did show his neubness to the national stage, but I don't think he wins that debate any way, shape or form- I think Ryan was just kind of "there", all eyes were on the incumbent and how he would react to the "meh" Wednesday night debate.

 

Now if this board was sitting in a room with Ryan/Biden, details would be welcome, analyzed and understood... but for most Americans, they like the Chicago style Razzle Dazzle.

It's not a complaint or an excuse. Every time he could have started providing detail (and by the way, it's awfully silly to ask for that much detail in a "you have two minutes" debate format designed to promote shallow answers - Biden didn't provide details either), Biden jumped in, cut him off, and put Ryan on the defensive. And that, I consider just good debate tactics.

The bottom line is the Ryan worship from conservative corners is a product of marketing, largely derived from the fact that the left doesn't like his budget and him calling himself a "wonk."
