I think Fitz will save Chan's job this year...

Agree entirely. I've been saying it since he triple-hitched that out to SJ and Revis made the pick. NOBODY triple hitches a pass like that. NOBODY. And the pre-Lee Fitz wouldn't have either. He's preoccupied with mechanics while at the SAME time trying to make a big play. He's pressing too much.

Let him chuck it and live with the consequences.

GO BILLS!!!

This is exactly true. This guy Lee has done nothing for this team or Fitz--or worse, he screwed Fitz up and has him thinking about mechanics instead of making a play. Another stupid staffing decision by Chan.

I couldn't agree more - that our biggest problem has been, these past 10+ years, that we've been just good enough to remain average. That has prevented us from having a real, franchise caliber QB fall to us in the draft. It has not - however - prevented us from trading up to get one.

As for Fitz, I think he is horrendous. I think he is a very big part of the defenses problem, too. I know a lot of people would balk at at that, but my reasoning is this: I think the defense is so demoralized by the knowledge that if they stop someone, the offense is only going to turn it right back over again. A defense plays much, much better when it believes a stop will give the offense a chance to score, instead of a stop merely briefly postponing more needed stops to come. And, besided the defense, the offense cannot function professionally with Fitz at the QB spot - his limitations neccessitate Gailey's game plans also be limited, and the opposing defenses know this. Unless Fitz can miraculously begin to be able to pass accurately for more than 15 yards, he is done.

I'm all for the Bills winning. However, I won't watch another season after this one with Fitz as the Qb. He should never have been handed the job without at least having serious competition, and a young understudy. If the Bills win enough to make it interesting at the end of the year, the Bills had better also do whatever it takes to move up in the draft next year to get that QB they desperately need, because without a good one this team will forever be mediocre, at best.

He did have competition--Chan's boy Trent Edwards. I'm not saying Fitz is an elite QB--obviously he isn't.

Also, at half time of the NE game no one was saying that Fitz's 2 ints in the first half had "demoralized" the D. The D gave up 45 points--this had absolutely nothing to do with Fitz's TOs. No 3 and outs.

I respect your opinon Mr. WEO but I have to disagree. Although Fitz is not entirely at fault for the Bills woes, he definitely is one of the big reasons.

He has been here long enough to prove that he has what it takes to be a starting qb and he has not. The main issue is that he lacks consistency and makes poor judgements.

Now don’t get me wrong, I know that all qb’s make poor judgments but not as many as Fitz has been making. At the moment there are rookie qb’s that are looking better.

At least RJ and JPL had strong arms. The same cant be said for Fitz and his play shows it.

Big arms won us few if any games.

I would have agreed with you after the Patriots game when the Bill's had six turnovers and nonstop 3 and outs but against the 49ers there Fitz only had the one turnover and the defense gave up terrible drives even after the Bill's put together their own drive. As everyone else has been saying, Fitz is a game managing QB and should be used thusly.

Even against the pats, Fitz's first 2 ints resulted in no points and the Bills still had a 2 TD lead in the 3rd. His last int was meaningless.

Fitz owes Chan BIG time. Because of Chan, Fitz and his family are multi-millionaires and will never have another financial concern.

I disagree. In the the first half of the season, Fitz's quick feet and quick thinking saved countless busted clueless Gailey play calls.

I totally disagree with JPL being soul-less like Trent. JP showed more passion than any QB we've had since Flutie.

JP never showed any evidence that he did any extra preparation for any opponent. He was unable to read any defense. His problem was that he thought he was a fantastic, gifted QB who could just show up and play in the NFL. Watching him flounder week after week was awful.

Fitz is trash and won't be saving anyone's job. The league figured him and this offense out last year. Play up because he can't beat you past 12 yards or anything along the sidelines...

You would think that Gailey would also help his ****ty defense out by playing a ball control offense and run the ball and use multiple TE sets, a FB or something.

If Chan had not made him the starter, Fitz never would have had the opportunity to sign that contract at the absolute zenith of his market value.

Fitz is terrible. Sure he can occasionally throw a rocket 6 yard pass with questionable accuracy at best, but any time he has to put some air under the ball he struggles mightily. Its a damn joke that people call him a game manager. He's a game killer.

The D in the NE game crumbled but the offence didn't respond until NE scored 5 consecutive TDs. Sad on both sides.

In SF Fitz missed open receivers downfield because he has no touch. He can throw it as far as he can or it comes up 10 yards short.

I think what WEO is saying is that Fitz will be just good enough to save the jobs of the coaching staff and maybe even the management. That's always been the problem around here. The Bills are just good enough to squeek by with what we already have. Sad, but true.

Because mediocrity, or slightly above it in Buffalo is equal to Super Bowl caliber elsewhere...We're living on a prayer, and it ain't a Bon Jovi Hit Song either... B-)

Worst case scenario would be Buffalo going any other route but QB with their first round pick next April. I really don't believe Fitz will suddenly get red hot like he was to begin last season, but Buddy seems afraid to take a QB. OTOH, he'll deal for QB's not smart enough to pick up Chan's thermonuclear offensive system and those he cuts in pre-season.

Fitz turned the football over once to the 49ers. Chandler did once as well. What keeps the defense on the field for a long time is giving up 2 90+ yard drives and several other longish TD drives and not being able to stop the other team on 3rd down.

If we had a D that could hold the other team to 25 or less, Fitz would be fine and we'd win a lot of games. As long as our D continues as it has the last 2 games, Johnny Unitas or Joe Montana or Roger Staubach wouldn't have a prayer for a win either.

The defense isn't the only problem. It's a BIG problem. Our play from the QB position is also a BIG problem. We are limited BIG TIME in our play calling because our QB is limited in the throws he can make consistently. Say what you like about fitzs stats, his arsenal of throws he can CONSISTENTLY make is perhaps the most limited in the league. We need to fix our defense and get a QB that can run a full offense, not just 1-5 yard throws. Both need improvements, not just our defense.

Regardless of our ultra-terrible Defense...Between the SF game, and the NE game, Fitz missed no less than 6 passes that could have gone for TD's...At the very least they would have been VERY long gains...He kills you more with the plays he does not make...Other than that he's about average...I will say this for him...On all 6 of those plays he made the proper read and threw it to the right receiver...He just missed them...badly...Two resulting in INT's...He's smart...He reads Defenses well...He simply does not have the physical abilities throwing the ball accurately that the better NFL QB's do...That has killed him throughout his career...And that will continue to kill all of us in Buffalo... B-)

It's hard for me to imagine a scenario where The Bills do not take a QB in the 1st round of next years Draft...Of course this whole thing has not played out yet...And we have 11 games left...But the way it looks right now it HAS to be QB or bust in 2013... B-)

It seems that he does make the correct read when its a throw he's comfortable making. I think he has a huge confidence problem throwing the ball down field. It appears to my very untrained eye that Fitz walks up to the line knowing he's going to try and throw it as far as he can (all 35 yards) or he finds another receiver. Dude lacks the ability (part arm strength, part confidence) to go thu progressions and find a 2nd or 3rd WR deep downfield.

I take a lot of heat for being a doomandgloomer/"realist"/pessimist here (although the ritual mass seppuku being committed here this week by the typical homers is amusing--amatures!).

But I've seen enough of Fitz to feel there is something in there that will turn it around and limit his TOs while returning the offense to a level which will prop up this pathetic D. He's smart, he has guts (he's absolutely and by far the ONLY tough guy on this candy-ass IR laden team) and he's nothing like JPL and RJ, who were brain dead, soul-less disasters who never really showed any reason for hope.

I have faith in Fitz because I have seen him play very well, and so have you. I say he plays well enough to save Chan's job next season. This will be bittersweet--great for Fitz, awful for the rest of us. Chan has been an awful choice. One terrible decision after another.

But, here's to Fitz! Starting this Sunday. He won't guarantee a win (he should), but I will.

I love Fitz, the guy, but have finally come to accept that his flaws are just too limiting. I certainly believe that he can put together some nice performances this season, and maybe save Gailey's job. But I would rather have Gailey stay, and Fitz go.

If we had a better Defense we would win more Games because our Defense is better...It would not fix Fitz...Not for the long-term at least...It would help a few games...But he would still be Fitz...He would still have his same limitations...No matter how happy the Fitz backers are that the Defense has sucked 3 games this year...It's still an excuse that does not hold water...Fitz is still Fitz...defenses will still pack-in and dare him to go deep...He will still have a noodle-arm...He'll never be good enough because good NFL Teams that don't have great QB's, but have sound Defenses (ie...Cincy last year, Baltimore, San Fran, etc...)...even those teams have FAR better QB's than Fitz...Because they have better arms than Fitz...They can burn you deep... B-)

IMHO ... I think that is the team the front office envisioned when they brought in Mario Williams and Mark Anderson, kept a "kick off specialist" on the team to eliminate KO returns, and stashed away a punter with a cannon for a leg to pin the opponent deep in their territory. I think they had visions of playing the "field position game" and only needing a sliver of offense to win games.

But as we all know our "vaunted D" pooped the bed their first outing and made Shancize look like Joe Wille reicarnated. I think the brain trust lost a little faith in our D at that point (but luckily we got to play two weak sisters for our next two games). It almost looks like they are afraid to play all out on D .... they're holding back for some reason ... whether it's the coaches unwilling to take risks ... or the players being too tentative ... I just don't know. For some reason this team is running scared

Clearly protecting the pretty much raw rookie DBs Aaron Williams and Gilmore, plus Sheppard and Moats.... good idea. I think this will change as the season goes on. in 2nd half of season you'll see Wanny Leave em out on the island and bring more pressure. Takes time knuckleheads.

Gunslinger? The dude can't throw a accurate tight spiral further than 8 yards. LOL

Fitz's inconsistency is the most maddening part of his game. This nonsense that he can only throw short passes because his arm's too weak is getting silly. In the NE game, he threw some strong and long passes right on target. A 35 yard (in the air) perfect over the shoulder drop on a scoring drive that culminated with a 25 yard laser to Chandler. Another TD was a similar great throw and catch to with Chandler-tight and fast from the 20. And the same guys who say he has no arm are the guys who were moaning when he overthrew (alleged) speedster Graham.
