papazoid Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) the league has re-issued the discipline without any changes or reductions, according to a league source. http://profootballta...nty-discipline/ EDIT: Lowered suspensions for 2 players NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has reduced the bounty-related suspensions of two New Orleans Saints players while upholding the punishments of two others. Linebacker Scott Fujita's three-game suspension has been reduced to one while defensive end Anthony Hargrove's eight-game penalty has been trimmed to seven games. The suspensions of linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive end Will Smith will remain the same. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8483685/roger-goodell-upholds-suspensions-jonathan-vilma-smith Edited October 9, 2012 by papazoid
boyst Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Smart. They had no choice but to reissue them. They would have looked like fools having not. I, also, am on their side, though curious about the Hargrove tape. Greggo is damning, though.
NoSaint Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) Its also been leaked that there are material changes to them - so it may not be the same. and even so, from here there will be an appeal and of course the court case lingering overhead. id guess there will be a "time served" olive branch to vilma and hargrove to help this go away, and smith and fujita could possibly be reduced as they only have contributions to the pool documented so far. hargrove with lying and vilma with a targeted player have other issues - hence the longer terms. Smart. They had no choice but to reissue them. They would have looked like fools having not. I, also, am on their side, though curious about the Hargrove tape. Greggo is damning, though. problems arise though when you get past vilmas alleged targeted statement to say fujita for instance - goodell has no grounds to suspend based purely on the offer of money to a pool will be the argument. not just the conduct of the players but the jurisdiction of goodell will be tried here if it stays the same. Mr. WEO Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 You knew it would go this way. There goes the "defamation" suit.
Roger Goodell Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you.
papazoid Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 The following is the NFL's full statement on the league's decision to reaffirm discipline for the four players -- Jonathan Vilma, Scott Fujita, Anthony Hargrove and Will Smith http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000078943/article/nfl-reaffirms-discipline-for-players-in-saints-bounty-program?module=HP11_headline_stack
NoSaint Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I still don't get the distinction between fujita and smith.
