SouthernMan Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 A few months ago, everyone was still giddy following the signings of Mario and Anderson, and with other off-season moves and a draft that were supposed to make this defense unstoppable. The origin of my post was prompted by my years of seeing the same pattern over and over, along with the unbridled adulation being thrown at our heroes, Nix and Gailey by the users of TSW. I thought it was premature. I even compared the situation to Peguala and the Sabres from last year. We know how that ended up. I used the analogy of Charlie Brown having the football always pulled by Lucy as he attempted to kick the ball. Reality sucks, eh? Every year there's some new enticement (Bledsoe & Mike Williams, Aaron Maybin, T.O., Dareus, Mario, etc) used to sell tickets that gets that faithful all geared up for the revamped team. So far, the Bills haven't sniffed the playoffs, other than the Mike Mularkey team that had only to beat the Steelers 2nd stringers to make the playoffs. Of course they lost. I stated that I was also happy to see some aggressive moves during the off season, and it all sounds good, but "the proof is in the pudding" and "show me the baby" were 2 phrases I used to temper my optimism. I changed my avatar to the "on-paper" trophy. BUT....I was called a troll and blasted for being negative and trying to rain on your parade. When you've been Bills a fan for 45 years, you come to expect the kind of season we're now experiencing. It's not the end of the world. I'm not going to change my allegiance. I just try to keep my expectations realistic and enjoy some football on the autumn months. We're from Buffalo. We're not supposed to succeed. Buffalo will always be the half-wit brother "Fredo" to other cities where teams win championships and the economy attracts Fortune 500 companies. Our legacy is: wide right, no goal, 4 straight losing superbowls, Tim McVeigh, OJ Simpson, John Wayne Bobbitt, and a U.S. president shot to death at a fair. I know better than to expect more out of the Bills with castoff hiring with the likes of Wannstadt, Nix, and Gailey. I'll always love them and they're my team, but like Fredo, they're always going to break your heart and I don't have unrealistic expectations that they'll ever be more than the bag man for the Rooneys, Maras, and Krafts of the NFL family. Reading today's posts tells me a lot of you have turned tail. Hmmm...guess I was right after all. Apologies accepted.
The Senator Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 (edited) Just how insecure are you? An "I told you so post" begging for obsequious apologies because your cynical opinions, five weeks into the season, have yet to be proven wrong? I would never call you a troll. PATHETIC troll is much more accurate... GO BILLSSS!!!! 16 and 3 baby!!!!! . Edited October 8, 2012 by The Senator
DC Tom Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I'm sorry, Specifically, I'm sorry you're so stuck on yourself.

Chilly Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I'm sorry, Specifically, I'm sorry you're so stuck on yourself. +1
SouthernMan Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 As far as begging for obsequious apologies ..etc No. It was the fact that I was the bad guy when all I was trying to do was have an intelligent dialogue and say "hold on a minute fellas..not so fast", and I was subsequently insulted by numerous regulars from TSW. Yeah, "I told you so" feels pretty good. Guess I'm just insecure.
PromoTheRobot Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Here's a gold star for you forehead. Who says being a miserable negative crank won't get you somewhere? PTR
billsfan_34 Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I must admit your right. The bills and the city take the FUN out of dysfunctional. We all need a little something to make us feel better today. If this post is what does it for you so be it. You my friend were right and I'm sure we all.....including yourself wish you were wrong. Don't listen to all the posters hiding behind their computers bashing ya....it is what it is.

87168 Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 To be quite honest, what you're doing right now could be considered trolling. Move on man. You're too old for this.
HankBulloughMellencamp Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Almost a year ago, I went to see Big Sugar at the Rapids Theatre in NF (fantastic show, by the way). During the opening band, Widemouth Mason (with Gordie J. on bass), I noticed this dude who had an awfully familiar looking face hanging out near my crew. Finally I placed the name with the face ... it was undoubtedly none other than John Wayne Bobbit. He was in a black leather jacket, trying to fire up some conversation with some very high-quality "free agents," to no avail. He was eventually noticeably stumbling a bit, and as Jimbo himself might put it, rocking the boat. So much so that his crew did the right thing and escorted him out of the venue at intermission/before Big Sugar even took the stage. I remember thinking to myself "Wow, that poor dude had his schwantz lopped off, surgically reattached, subsequent 15 mins of fame, and was even a featured guest on the Howard Stern New Years PPV special. Yet here he is, a bumbling mess." So, very analogous to the state of the Bills organization of the last dozen years. The question of the day is ... does Chan make it past the bye week/intermission?

It's probably fitting that the post of the year was made in the worst thread ever.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Congrats, hoping for and taking gratification in being a loser is the first step towards ensuring you stay a loser.
