My apologies for using hyperbole in response to one of dozens of similar posts claiming how easy it is to get whatever franchise QB you target in FAgency. It isn't. Especially for Buffalo and especially in the case of Manning who was going to one of TWO teams, SF or Denver. Like you said, you have no idea if any of them would have come to Buffalo and yet you have no problem saying how "easy it is." If were easy, EVERY team would do it. The FACT is most teams DON'T have a franchise QB at ANY given time in history. They are rare and anything BUT easy to get. I'll pass on debating the relative merits of going after Favre or Warner at those stages of their careers. GO BILLS!!! lets see... Kurt Warner left st louis in 2003 ( guess the bills were not interested). he went to the giants in 2004. but were the giants satisfied with that ?....nope, they traded the 4th pick in the draft for the 1st pick in the draft and got some guy name Eli Manning (2 super bowls already). the bills were in a similar situation recently, having the 3rd pick in the draft, they sat still and did not make a move to address the franchise QB. so, in 2005 Kurt Warner went to Arizona, where at that late stage of his washed up career, he went on to make the pro bowl and nfc conference championship in 2008. Brett Farve left Green Bay in 2007.....at that washed up late stage of his career made the pro bowl in 2008 & 2009. i guess you wouldn't even have tried to get either one.....ya know, cause it would be a waste of time trying. i'd say farve would have passed on us......but i bet kurt warner would have said yes to the bills over arizona if you showed him the money.

GO BILLS!!! in case my main point is lost in all this discussion, here it is... a franchise QB is NOT the #1 priority of this team.......i believe it should be. over the past 5 years, the bills have passed on multiple, multiple oppurtunities through trades, free agency and the draft to get a franchise QB. you point out yet another example regarding Cam Newton. the bills were absolutely going to take cam at #3 if he was there. that makes him a franchise QB in their eyes......yet they did not justify paying a premium (like the redskins recently did) to move up and guarantee getting him. that clearly shows that a franchise qb is NOT the top priority. they let the draft fall to them and went in a different direction picking a terrific player in marcel dareus.

Carolina wasn't trading that pick for ANYTHING. That was THEIR once in a generation chance to get THAT ONE GUY. But if you need to imagine that the Bills could have, should have found a way to make the Panthers a willing trade partner, what can I say. Have at it. It's just so far out of the realm of reality it makes it a non-issue for me. Now, if Carolina had already invested $50m guaranteed in another overall number one pick in the form of Sam Bradford just two short years prior, I'm sure they would have been more than willing to trade the pick. Just like the Rams. But that scenario wasn't available. And now we've come full circle. You say they haven't made it a priority. I say that they have in the form of several number 1 picks in the form of trades and selections. They not only have made it a priority, they've obsessed to the point of panic about it as well. And just because they've not been successful in trying to address the position doesn't mean they have ignored it. They haven't by any stretch. I'm glad Nix isn't the type to do that when he has a game manager already. He will not reach for anyone that he's not convinced has all the tools to be that long term answer. And as soon as they are in a position to select one, he'll pounce. He knows the importance of the position and I find the idea that he doesn't ridiculous. GO BILLS!!!

Drafting a much higher rated player (AW had first round grades) at a position of need (unless you thought having an injured and aging McGee and a limited McKelvin solidified the CB position) is not a bad thing. Drayton Florence was our best player at the position at the time AW was drafted. Think about that. The position needed to be addressed. Perfectly understandable why the Bills went in that direction at the time. I love Dalton's upside based on the early returns. He just may end up being one that got away. Too bad they didn't have the razor sharp 20/20 hindsight about Dalton. But wake me when Kaepernick or Mallett get off the bench and are starting for their teams. Taking Williams and Shep may indeed be a mistake. Maybe they'll both end up as busts. But it won't be because they aren't QBs that you think the Bills should have drafted instead. We already have a game manager. We don't need to draft another one. We need to draft the franchise QB that won't give up the position until he retires. That guy just hasn't been there yet. Dalton notwithstanding. GO BILLS!!!

For me, and I really thought about this - it would be this: My family has been an original season ticket holder since 1960 and at this point in time, we are really not asking for much. We are not aking you to do the following: Win the Super Bowl Make the Super Bowl Win a playoff game Get to the playoffs What I am asking you is to just make it to a game in December where the outcome of a game could determine a playoff spot. Does THAT really seem like it is too much to ask. Put together a team where the WHOLE season actually means something. Make home games in December just the slightest bit enjoyable for us fans that continue to show up through thick and thin. It really seems almsot impossible to go almost 12 years while giving us only one of these games (which you lost to a bunch of back-up Steelers). Join The Charge, One Team, all of those other crappy slogans your team comes up with - screw it. How about Make December Count! Now go out and freakin' beat a team where everyone else says you don't have a chance. You want to play a big game in December? Go beat the fukking Niners on Sunday..... The 49ers would need to stay in bed for the Bills to win on Sunday. You need to pick another game to rant on about. They have no shot if they play even close to the fumble fest mess they showed last Sunday.

If Ralph is true to his word, the team is to be sold to the highest bidder. No way the highest bidder is one who will operate the franchise in that market. No chance. If the New York welfare state steps in and sweetens the pot, then maybe,,. but in a straight up bidding war for an NFL f ing franchise of which there are only one or two that come available this way every decade (the redskins were the last I think and that was 20 some years ago) no way. The auction of the Redskins was a crazy bidding war, shrouded in intrigue, with the heirs of JK Cooke bidding against Snyder. This isn't an crappy little $90m hockey team , this is the NFL. Real money comes out to play in this arena. You get the Boston, NY and Miami teams twice a year, merchandise sells like crazy in a real market, and you get to live a rich's guys dream. No way someone pays $800m to play in a 40 year old dump of the stadium (which I happen to love, but that's me) and sell merchandise into a chronically depressed isolated market. Not when Toronto ,San Antonio, L.A., Vegas, etc are out there. Hate to say it, but unless the fix is in (which it could be) I am not optimistic that in a fair fight, WNY keeps the franchise. Lets hope Ralph lives to 100.
