Great book, too...the movie mirrors it almost perfectly. With the possible exception of The Godfather, I can't think of a better and more faithful adaptation.

Does the book have Columbo reading the story to Fred Savage too or was that just added in for some transitions in the movie?

It's been a while since I read it (like 25 years)...but I think it did.

I don't recall anything being added, only subtracted (like Fezzik's back-story), and not much at that.

So it's a book about someone reading a book to someone. Interesting. It seems like a strange premise to start with. More Fezzik backstory does sound good to me though.
