TakeYouToTasker Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Sounds awesome. When does it start? You've already been seeing the toss backs and bootlegs.
3rdand12 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Sounds awesome. When does it start? Every once and again, you crack me up ! i dont even care if i laugh for the wrong reasons you're alright by me Mr. I think this year Chan is starting to look smart. Thanks Jay
Geno Smith's Arm Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 This offense is designed to stretch the field horizontally, and give players the opportunity to make huge plays in space. The 3-1 and 4-1 bunches do exactly this by crowding and blowing up traditional zone schemes, creating assignment confusion in man, drawing safties away from cut-back lanes in the running game. The reason why the passing offense is complicated is because the WR's overall aren't talented enough to win battles one on one, and Fitz is limited in the variety of throws he can make. They have to use lots of motion and crazy formations to try and get the defense to expose what they are going to do., Fixed it for you
TakeYouToTasker Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) Fixed it for you I suppose, if you have no idea what you're talking about, that would be the case. But then you'd also have to accept as fact that Chan likes to retain less talented recievers rather than upgrade them in order to intentionally keep the offense more complicated, and that there was no thought process behind the Spiller draft pick. If that's what works for you, more power to you, I suppose. I'm gonna just go ahead and keep knowing what I'm talking about, however. Edited September 29, 2012 by TakeYouToTasker
Hapless Bills Fan Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 http://bostonherald....art_in_buffalo/ Thanks for posting, Jay. Interesting indeed....not very profound though. He says: "For the Patriots, the key to understanding the Buffalo offense is realizing they can’t control which one shows up" That's ambiguous but earlier writing suggests he means "Will the Patriots [team stats] see the team that played Christmas-in-September with the Jets on opening day with three ugly interceptions and a lost fumble? Or will the Pats see the Bills team that’s since been a relative model of efficiency with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing for five touchdowns and no picks?" Interpreted in that light, he would appear to be ignoring the role of the Jet's defense, defensive preparation, and coaching in creating "which Bills team shows up", successfully fooling Fitzpatrick and pwning the Bills game plan (at times, the Jets DB appeared to be running the designed routes better than our receivers did). The Pats have pwned Buffalo in recent years with unstoppable offense, but their D has looked far from impressive against our offense, folding like a lawn chair to let us back in the first game and spotting us a 21 point lead in the 2nd. Saying to the Pats D "you can't control which one shows up" IMO misses the point of what the Jets did to us. One can only hope that Belicheck does, too, and that our coaches have game planned to avoid any recurrance.

Two piss poor throws and a miscommunication with Nelson resulted in 3 INTs. I was actually surprised the Jest defense didn't do more to confuse our OLine and, by extension, Fitz. But we looked prepared for everything Ryan did schematically. Fitz just played poorly and it hurt us. GO BILLS!!!

Where did I imply that Gailey doesn't want more talented receivers? I think he has to make the best of what he has, and that they haven't collected better receivers because they had to improve in so many other areas (especially defense). I think he makes it more complicated because Fitz has limited range on his throws, so Gailey uses motion and odd formations to confuse the defense, and to get them to make adjustments, to expose their coverage. Does he use these formations to open up space too? Sure. I have no idea what I posted that implied there was "no thought behind the Spiller pick". Thanks for "taking me to task", but what you disagree with is unclear. Edited September 29, 2012 by Matthews' Bag
