wow, that seems like pretty good pay. How many hours do they actually work?

 

A hell of a lot, actually. 70-80 hours a week isn't unusual.

 

And your average symphony musician gets paid a hell of a lot less than six figures. Chicago's top-tier, salary-wise. Most would be lucky to make half that.

So you support the unions strike for better pay?

The average for the SF symphony is about the same. But I always wondered what the union symphony "roadies" that come out between pieces and move a couple of chairs and the grand piano around make.
