The NFL cannot allow Refs to slice into the butter bc it will take power away from the the Shield. Its tough enough theat that we as fans hafta suffer through players vs owners but to make it a 3 way leverage in the future by making refs full time would be a disaster. Owners will have the power to do lock outs, Players have their strikes and refs put a halt to games by not reffing and getting c0urts involved to analyze differences. The NFL has a delicate "Employer/Employee" relationship it would be a mess if it was "Employer/Employee/Rule Enforcers". What next? Concession Workers strike? Parking attendants unite? Nobody cheer bc scab cheerleaders are pudgy? Scoreboard keeper says go back to cards unless we get more money? Refs need to be interchangeable to keep the game clean w/o non players sucking on owners skin. These refs will get better as time goes on. "the NFL moves on"

Don't know if anyone saw Michael Strahan on ESPN tonight, but his take was like my thinking. He didn't think that the replacements refs were doing such a bad job, and said that most of the complaints about these refs were COMING FROM THE LOSERS. Another VERY interesting thing was a stat they put up, comparing through the first 2 games this year vs. the first 2 games last year......On Challenges there were WAY MORE calls REVERSED LAST YEAR.....you know, with the almighty "regular" refs......vs. this year. So IOW, the "regular" refs had more "wrong" calls at game pace.

Just read the linked article....other than some inconsistency.....and that NEVER happened with regular refs on PI & Holding calls. LOL......most fans like the idea of "Let'em play".....me too.

It could be also that since they're used to the college game, sometimes they forget the rules can be different in the NFL.

like messing up the defensive holding rule multiple times on monday. its not just inconsistency on calls, its even at times inconsistency on what the consequence for the called penalty even is.

Heres a letter from the NFLRA just released:

Heres deadspins week 2 recap - some ugly calls, some not so bad mistakes. I think this tends to continues to split the crowd - if you dont like them this will be proof, if you do like the job this wont look to bad. the especially hard part is theres no baseline really. mistakes happen - how do you quantify better or worse for a week of nfl officiating.

i still think they are a bit overwhelmed though

Why is anybody surprised?

A bunch of greedy billionaire owners trying to crush the little guys. The NFL is greedy and could care less about the welfare of the players or the regular officials.

It won't be long before they ask the replacement refs to take a pay cut.
