Virgil Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I'm not going to say that week 1 is a must win game for us. However, the fact is that we are playing the Jets on the road, and our record is 2-6 in the last 8 games against them. . No matter how easy our schedule ends, we have to be able to win in our division and win on the road. This game will say a lot about our team to me this season. Being 0-1 hasn't bothered me in the past. But, being 0-1 in the division and losing a game that we weren't really in after the 3rd quarter....that will be a different story. However, on the flip side, even if we blew them out, you won't see me predicting the playoffs. This is just a large indicator game to me. I'd rather win this game and lose the following week on a fluke than anything else. Dunno, maybe it's pre-season jitters or the normal hesitation that any Bills fan feels, but I'm already nervous for week 1
K-9 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Very important in that it's a division game. But not critical. GO BILLS!!!
marauderswr80 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Its a must win....divisional road game! We need it! Its more of a mental thing for the team! The one thing i fear....Mario going against that new RT with no NFL games and see Mario with no sacks! I cant imagine how this board will be... But those nerves you have are the love and dedication you have for the team! I have them too man!
PromoTheRobot Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 On one hand it's just one game of 16. On the other it's a division game with important tie breaker implications. It's pretty important. The pecking order is division games, conference games, then non-conference games. PTR
Chandemonium Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I don't think its a must win, but the second time we play the Jets will be a must win if we lose.
Beerball Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 It's important to us and possibly even more important to the team.
Best Player Available Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 This first game is huge. It's a division road game with a suspect opponent. That opponent has owned us for the recent past. The team needs to set the tone for the year. I think they will, but it may not be pretty. A buck and a quarter in running alone for Fred. 3 sacks for the D-line, Bills win by 9.

But those nerves you have are the love and dedication you have for the team! I have them too man! Mario not getting any sacks is not important in and of itself. It's quite possible that the Jest have to devote more resources to neutralizing him and that allows others to get sacks and, more importantly, pressures and hurries. GO BILLS!!!
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 (edited) Starting g off with a win on road against a divisional rival is HUGE. Is it critical to the season unlikely but what a great way to start the death spiral of the NY Jets Edited September 6, 2012 by bills_fan_in_raleigh
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 No first game of the season is a must win. We play 16 of them after all. That said, I think it's a real test to see how far along we are. The Jets had a better record than us, are favored to win in a road, division game. Losing is a setback. Winning gives us momentum going into two very winnable games against KC and Cleveland before the next big test against the Patriots.
CodeMonkey Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 It is HUGE. It is against one of the teams the Bills need to leapfrog if they hope to have any chance of even thinking about the playoffs.
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 It's Huuuuuuuuge! It is fact so huge that Chan is considering sending Mr. Fuscillo to play his commercials non-stop in NYC, annoying Rex Ryan so much that he loses his cool and forgets is "strategy"
pepsicat Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Going into Metlife and smacking the Jets around would be huge for everyone involved. It's not a must win but all divisional games are about as close as you can get imho.
Captain Hindsight Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 (edited) A team that has kicked our ass the last few years? This is important as any game this season. I want to run up the score, set the tone for the year Edited September 6, 2012 by Captain Hindsight
Dragonborn10 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 It is more than one game in 16 when you consider the tie breaker issues. It is obvioulsy not a must win but it is very important. A road division win is critical. They can lose at San Francisco and even drop the Toronto game, but they need the Tenn, Indy, and Jax game.
Captain Hindsight Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 You need to win every game. You need to at least have that attitude. If you dont expect to win, dont put on the uniform
marauderswr80 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 My Mario comment was more of a board thing.... In the end its important to win this game!
Dorkington Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Obviously it's just one game, but I think if we put up a good performance against the Jets, it'll be a huge confidence boost.
Rico Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Huge, gotta win games against inferior divisional teams.
