Fan in San Diego
Do your own homework Sue Don't have a specific link, but CIA, UN & World Bank usually have a trove of statistics on population trends. We had a discussion here recently that France was considering adding a tax break to encourage people to have more kids. Here's one site I pulled out of a hat. Have no clue on the site's origins, but looks like it has decent links to data. Canada used to have a thing called the baby bonus. for every child they sent you a check every month. The more kids the bigger your check. I don't know if they still have that. I would add that in order to reduce the national debt, the US stiff's China on its debt and thumbs it's nose at China saying what are you going to do about it? Nothing, that's what. Hey that is not a bad idea.
Joe Miner
A post-apocalyptic tale based on a novella by Harlan Ellison. A boy communicates telepathically with his dog as they scavenge for food and sex, and they stumble into an underground society where the old society is preserved. The daughter of one of the leaders of the community seduces and lures him below, where the citizens have become unable to reproduce because of being underground so long. They use him for impregnation purposes, and then plan to be rid of him. Sounds like the plot of a porn movie.
Nanker
Sounds like the plot of a porn movie. Sounds like the plot of a porn movie. It was a soft sci-fi porn flick. See my post above. It nearly ended my 30+ year marriage before it even began.
TPS
Groucho Marxist? Absolutely. Yes, groucho it is...If you're not familiar with this quote, the other marx said "malthus was a libel against the human race." Here's a nice little essay that takes your pov: http://www.spiked-online.com/site/reviewofbooks_article/11353/ Regarding futuristic views of the world, I'm surprised no one has referenced Soylent Green or Blade Runner. Hmmm..."my reputation"......I'm sure my good friend AD will provide any necessary details...

uncle flap
Great thread! In my pessimistic view of the future, commodities are hoarded by multi-national conglomerates. When the oil wars are over, the next series of large scale wars will be over water. Here's a great take on this idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxvQKZPb6Wo Lyrics here: http://rapgenius.com...ld-water-lyrics
