We didn't eliminate congress and the senate! "The President is a direct representative of the people, and as such need not answer to Congress or the Supreme Court." Like we're not already headed in that direction.

It keeps the states as a buffer between the people and the executive. Which isn't much of a buffer these days, admittedly...the point being: why would you want to weaken it further?
