DanInUticaTampa Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I tink Dwan is gone because the bills are high on Gilbert and Moore..... Moore isn't a dt
jumbalaya Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Report says Bills are trading to get Michael Jasper back and will convert him back to defense.
DanInUticaTampa Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Can't trade for a player who was just cut today
section122 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Report says Bills are trading to get Michael Jasper back and will convert him back to defense. Careful you can't play with people's emotions around here like that. Mr. Jasper is to be respected around here!
jahnyc Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Not sure about that. Chris Brown had been reporting that Edwards was playing well. Carrington has been a non-factor at DE and DT. Gilbert seems pegged for DE and Heard does not seem to add much. I think that Edwards was an upgrade over what is left at DT, even if his more natural position is DE in a 3-4.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Actually there is a huge salary benefit. If you release him now you save having to pay him for the year and could use htta money to sign someone else. If you keep him on the roster beyond opening day, you then pay his salary for the season, then if you wish to sign someone else, you're paying for the new guy plus Edwards. Higher priced backups rarely make it through the cuts, it's just not woerth it. I too think this is a mistake. The Bills do not have great depth at DT now with only Spencer Johnson as a viable backup. Bills were well under the salary cap for the season too so that "benefit" of releasing him means nothing.
ajzepp Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Last night in the shoutbox, I asked who the heck 98 was because this player was just getting brutalized. Someone reminded me it was Dwan....I was shocked to see how poorly he was playing, so Id have to say it's not a shock to see him cut today. Best wishes, Dwan

Your forgetting about Spencer Johnson....who also has been a standout at camp
Roc Bronson Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I see the pats cut D Branch and D Koppen isn't he a long time patty boy.. I thought Branch was a lock..
Kevin Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) I think Edwards was a money issue. By cutting him he saves the Bills a little over $4 million on the cap. $4.375 million according to John Clayton. Edited August 31, 2012 by Kevin
papazoid Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 dwan is gone because he made too much money......next is brad smith, thigpen, mcgee.
SageAgainstTheMachine Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) It's a move I support, though he seems like a solid guy. Champions don't keep $4 million players when comparable talent is available for minimum wage. Edited August 31, 2012 by SageAgainstTheMachine

Brainiac72 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Gilbert is maybe playing DE just to prove versatility that he can do both. Also, with the new IR rule, maybe they think they can get Troup back later in the year.

Malazan Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Ahh, Bills fans. Prior to season: Edwards shouldn't be in an NFL uniform After He's cut: KEY TO DEFENSE! SEASON OVER!
Ramius Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Hopefully the $ saved can go towards an extension for Levitre of Byrd. And Brad Smith isn't going anywhere, no matter how much some of you guys hope and wish and pray.
KollegeStudnet Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 It will be interesting what they do with Easley
shoretalk Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 The second team defense just didn't seem to have any push and Edwards really is not a great fit in a 4-3. He is a quality player and will find a home somewhere.
Haven Moses Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Ah, when he clears waivers they can bring him back for less money.
