FutureBillsGM Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Greg Jones, LB, from the Giants seems like an interesting pickup. Started 5 games for them last year as a rookie at MLB. Special teams contributor. Young guy who was rated rfairly highly in the draft but his height made him fall a bit.
ko12010 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I personally think they have something special in Mallett. The little I've seen, I like. The guy has some zip on his throws... Yea, so did J.P.
mattsox Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 The Patriots have released Deion Branch, Dan Koppen, Brian Hoyer. and James Ihedigo. Surprised about Branch, Hoyer is interesting, Koppen was a backup, and Ihedigo played in all 16 games last year. i'd Pick up Branch, Koppen and Hoyer unless they really are hurt or just can't play

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Robert Griffen got cut, lets bring him in as a backup QB!!

Santana Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Marvin McNutt was cut by the Eagles didn't even make it through his rookie season.
drinkTHEkoolaid Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Hah, Tim Hightower was let go. He was drafted in 2 of my fantasy leagues. Wow that's a surprise cut...don't ever trust the shannahan
biglukes Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 This is going to turn into a thread about how we should sign every cut with a recognizable name, because every last one of them is better than what we have, isn't it?
mob16151 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Marvin McNutt was cut by the Eagles didn't even make it through his rookie season. Marvin McNutt was popular with a lot of Bills fans leading up to the draft. Would rather have Mardy Gliyard though if your going to take a WR the eagles cut.
Doc Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Not everyone's opinion http://www.nfl.com/n...iots-backup-job Mallett won't amount to much. And beating out Hoyer is no big feat.

Would rather have Mardy Gliyard though if your going to take a WR the eagles cut. and with that, we get back to why a guy like whoever we cut at WR will likely not be jumped on immediately. There are more able bodied #5/6 type WRs than there are roster spots. Without a personal connection, its tough to get a new spot fast.

Some teams gonna want to get them a playbook as soon as possible.

NoSaint Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Some of these guys might get snatched up quick. Some teams gonna want to get them a playbook as soon as possible. yes, some. but we will see tons hitting the streets. ive already seen 4 wr comments (branch, gilyard, mcnutt, and a GB cut) in the last hour. thats coming from 3 teams cut lists. its not a market that is by any means thin. almost every team will be releasing a WR that someone on this board might look twice at. heck, we might be releasing more than one, and we arent that good at WR. when it comes down to it - theres a lot of guys that are 6ft tall, can run fast, and catch decently well. couple that with teams keeping 6 guys and you are easily into the mess of guys with very similar skill sets (is there a huge difference between the 210th best wr and the 230th) and its not nearly as rare as a lot of skill sets/body types. section122 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Here's a link to the NFL.com Cut Tracker Both the Jets and Giants cut a Matt McCants It really was only the Giants and prob a typo but I'm kind of surprised by the amount of 2012 draft picks we're already seeing released Some of these guys might get snatched up quick. Some teams gonna want to get them a playbook as soon as possible. There are 32 teams trying to cut down their rosters today, often making very tough decisions on the last few spots. Where are these "guys that will get snatched up quick" be put? How many teams cut to 52 so they can sign other people's trash? Every preseason there is the concern of we can't cut this guy someone else might snatch him! I wonder if anyone even remembers this ever playing out...

Every year, to use an example from this season, Miami is working out WR's left and right. Last year the Packers paid Torey Gurley extra money to stay on thier practice squad after the last round of cuts. It happens.
