Discrimination is awesome??

yup when it comes to tipping.....go work at a restaurant for a bit.....you will be on the same page....table of 10 spending 250-300 w wine etc.....40-80 dollar tip.......meanwhile "some people" same scenario no forced tipping get $20.00 from "person x's"

dont eat out if you don't like to tip is my rule of thumb, people have to feed their kids! or buy alcohol and party with female waiters

pay up !! haaa

Hilarious...

So, what if they charge some people extra because of where they're from AND they end up tipping very well? Do you give the money back?

Dumb people should be separated from their money.

Nope. Anyone who has ever worked as a waiter knows the old adage, "What you lose on the merry-go you make up on the carousel."

Leave it to a liberal to begrudge hard working middle class people their pay that they earned. Waiters get paid on the honor system & some people have no honor.

I'm white & I've had the 18% added & I didn't have to immediately reach for a tampon.

I always thought that adding the gratuity to the check defeated the purpose of a "gratuity". That's not a tip, it's a damn service fee.

However, in some countries (a few European ones, I know, and I suspect Canada) servers make a living wage, and tips thus aren't expected or needed as much, hence people tip less (or not at all). So yeah, I can understand adding a service fee in some cases.

Just stop calling it a !@#$ing gratuity. I leave a gratuity, you don't charge me one.

I agree with you in principle and tip reasonably well. I also understand the difference between Happy Hour prices and tip a much higher percentage when I'm drinking half-priced drinks. Regardless, this isn't about my tipping habits, it's about those cheap phucks to the north. They're pathetic cheap-ass and arrogant about it too.

Tipping is an american custom. Other cultures aren't used to it so typically will tip much less. It's something that we're aware of more than foreigners. Travel Agents warn Europeans/Asians about it when they travel here.

Conversely, travel agents warn Americans about VAT Taxes and Service Charges when we travel abroad. Some Asian cultures actually get insulted if you try to tip them.

Precisely.

On a recent trip to Denmark, we found out that tipping is not something that they are at all upset about. They consider it a defi tie extra if you do it, but wouldn't curse you under thier breath if you least nothing. Service people there get paid much, much better than in the US...
