PromoTheRobot Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) And the winner is..... http://www.buffalone...icle1029117.ece http://www.wgr550.com/pages/14108056.php?contentType=4&contentId=11329487 Terry Pegula! I wondered if Palladino would get a fair shake considering his political history, particularly his history with Byron Brown. And his plan was good. But the Pegula plan had a master stroke. Palladino wanted to build a hotel, parking, retail, office space, apartments, etc. But Buffalo already has too much office space. In fact the 40-story HSBC tower will be pretty empty soon. And all that other stuff is built on the hope people will come eventually. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. Pegula's plan offered much of the same, with one addition: hockey rinks. Two hockey rinks, with the plan to hold youth hockey tournaments year round. Families with kids in travel hockey go to tournaments all the time, and they spend money. So Pegula creates a place where families can stay and watch their kids play. And while they are there, they can check out Canalside or hop the trolley into the city. Tourism officials have brainstormed for years on how to increase Buffalo tourism. Pegula basically invented a reason for a certain segment of families to come. Now Canalside better get it's act together quickly. It needs to look and be fun before that first tournament opens. PTR Edited August 30, 2012 by PromoTheRobot
BarkLessWagMore Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I also believe that this hotel will turn out to be a 4 star or better brand (Westin or higher). Pegula can pull that off and it is ideal for that location. And now little Tommy Brady will be happy!
PromoTheRobot Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 I'm sure it will be nice but it can't be too expensive for families. PTR

PTR There will be a family friendly Courtyard by Marriott right next door in the old Donovan building. Just a guess, but I believe they will go for the gusto on the hotel piece.
bbb Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 IMO, this is such good news. Everything about downtown is looking so up these days............One small extra thing is that I hope we get an NCAA Regional now instead of the sub-regionals that we've been getting.

Another Frozen Four perhaps, but this time there might be actual stuff to do outside the arena. PTR
