Smiley Dear Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) Per Schefty tweet. New trade deadline is Tues. after week 8. Edited August 30, 2012 by Smiley Dear
cmjoyce113 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I would guess McGee would become an option for the new IR rule then.
Smiley Dear Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 You have to make the final roster first. Only players who were placed on IR after Tues. Sept. 4th will be eligible to be reactivated. Not sure on how long must a player be on IR before he can be reactivated.
Justice Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I would guess McGee would become an option for the new IR rule then. I immediately thought the same thing. McGee will probably be the guy the Bills use that exemption on.
Smiley Dear Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) Why not cut McGee and give someone with a possible future in this league his roster spot. No one else is signing an old corner with a bum knee. We can always resign him when he's healthy if we miss him . Remember if he makes the final 53 man roster on Monday his salary for this year is guaranteed. Edited August 30, 2012 by Smiley Dear

Doc Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Why not get rid of IR and allow players to be placed on the PUP list at any time, having to wait at least 6 games before getting a chance to be activated?
justnzane Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Why not get rid of IR and allow players to be placed on the PUP list at any time, having to wait at least 6 games before getting a chance to be activated? Shhh that is too much common sense. The NFL should have some reserve list like baseball does where you must be on the a long term DL to free up another spot for a minor leaguer/ PS'er

You bet he would be signed even for a few games of productivity by a playoff team with a corner injury or two. Dorkington Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I'd rather not use the exemption so early on McGee.
ICanSleepWhenI'mDead Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 A few more details on how it works: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000056619/article/ir-tweak-could-help-david-decastro-desmond-bishop Each team can only bring back one player during the season. One key part of the rule that has been overlooked: That player has to be "designated for return" at the time he's placed on IR. In short, teams can't wait and see what players recover faster. You have to make the final roster first. Only players who were placed on IR after Tues. Sept. 4th will be eligible to be reactivated. For this year only, the league made an exception to the rule because initial roster cuts have already started. The Green Bay Packers, for instance, could "reactivate" linebacker Desmond Bishop from IR before Aug. 31 at 9 p.m. ET. Bishop must remain on the Packers' 53-man roster through the league-mandated cutdown period and would then be eligible for the roster exemption. Do we have anybody already on IR besides Troup?

billsfan89 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 McGee if placed on this wouldn't be eligible to return for 8 weeks. Don't know how sever his injury is.
