uncle flap Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 These are great..they finally got around to the Bills today: http://deadspin.com/...2-buffalo-bills That's our tailgate in the video!
HeHateMe Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Some of those comments are hilarious. snoop-a-loop: Reply "You shut your hole, Drew. We got Super Mario, our quarterback is a genius, and Chan and Buddy are like some redneck gang of inventors who have spent the past two years building a car out of junkyard scrap that runs on boiled peanuts yet can outperform a Porsche. SUPER BOWL TIME!!!" "[Looks at Cornelius Bennett picture, puts head in hands, weeps.]" LOL
Dirtbag Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Buffalo does have a midwestern accent. Speech specialists call it the inland northern accent. We have it here in Syracuse, too - it begins in central New York and goes out to Chicago. just read an article about the great lakes accent, here: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/the_good_word/2012/08/northern_cities_vowel_shift_how_americans_in_the_great_lakes_region_are_revolutionizing_english_.html?fb_ref=sm_fb_plugin_activity
PearlHowardman Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 just read an article about the great lakes accent, here: http://www.slate.com...plugin_activity Interesting read. From your link " From Syracuse, N.Y., in the east to Milwaukee in the west, 34 million Americans are revolutionizing the sound of English." Watertown, NY has no distinguishable accent from what I experience when I travel there.
DC Tom Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Interesting read. From your link " From Syracuse,N.Y., in the east to Milwaukeein the west, 34 million Americans are revolutionizing the sound of English." That's kind-of like saying Jim Jones revolutionized kids' drinks.
SouthernMan Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Wow. I read all the comments too. The people who knock the Bills fans at the stadium are 100% right. But I would agree, I wish it was still cold in Buffalo like it was when I was a kid 20 years ago, but those days are seemingly long gone. When's the last time it really was "2 degrees for a game in December" as people ALWAYS allude to in articles like this? More like 45 degrees with drizzling rain. Which is actually more depressing. The Buffalo accent is pretty much identical to the Chicago accent. I think it's really a Polish-American accent more than anything. Wow. I read all the comments too. Having been away from Buffalo for a lot of years, the accent is very noticable. Didn't think we had an accent until I was removed from the area. And when I'm speaking with someone from Chicago, Michigan, or WNY, it all sounds nearly identical. Hard to tell the difference. And they all say "pop", rather than "soda".
bowery4 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Some of the responses at the end are funny, but the article itself just another example of generation "Y'd ya write that ****?" Typical of all things on that stupid website, Deadspittle.

This dude sounds like a mix of Mike Ditka, Dan Aykroyd in his "Da Bears" skit, a random Canadian, and any bar fly at about 4am on Oliver St. in North Tonawanda. I love it...
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) Mid western = corn fed it comes out looking the same as it did when it went in. No offense to my friends in the mid west. Edited August 28, 2012 by BillsFan-4-Ever

And they all say "pop", rather than "soda". Several years ago my car broke down. I had to take a taxi home. As I was talking to the cabbie he said "so, how long have you been here from Buffalo?" Holy crap. At that point I had lived in CA for probably 20 years. So yeah, there's a distinctive Buffalo accent.
Punch Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 This was slightly more inspired and original than yelling "Four straight Super Bowls!"
Turbosrrgood Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 These are great..they finally got around to the Bills today: http://deadspin.com/...2-buffalo-bills I was actually expecting the article it's self to be funny and poke fun at the team...Instead it's just a douchy attack on the people that live in Buffalo. I'm not even from there but I wanted to reach through my monitor and inflict violence on the author. The comments from fans however, are freaking hilarious and well worth reading.

You don't get it because you're not from there.
Turbosrrgood Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 You don't get it because you're not from there. I'm from upstate NY, and have spent plenty of time working in Buffalo. I "get it", I just didn't find it funny.
Chef Jim Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I'm from upstate NY, and have spent plenty of time working in Buffalo. I "get it", I just didn't find it funny. That's the thing. It's not funny, never said it was. I said it was spot on accurate.
Turbosrrgood Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 That's the thing. It's not funny, never said it was. I said it was spot on accurate. I know, I said I thought it would be. That was the whole point.
DanInUticaTampa Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 That is pretty much what I was expecting. It is along the same line as the rest of the articles. I was actually thinking it would be worse. I love that he throws in the fan comments as well as part of the articles. Deadspin overall is a decent site. Not sure why some of you hate it.
plenzmd1 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 i thought the funniest comment was the owner chooses to live in Detroit...how bad must it be if someone chooses to live in Detroit instead of your hometown!! That was funny. If you did not laugh at this article..you be taking life way to serious

That was funny. If you did not laugh at this article..you be taking life way to serious Plus one on the last point. In terms of the accent, one of my old college buddies (from Louisiana, no less!) noticed pretty quickly on a visit that "all the women talk like [our female freshman floor mate from Chili].". To this day he swears the accent is much more pronounced in women and ever since he mentioned it I've always noticed that myself....
