FO has made some bold moves this year, but it will all be for naught since the powers that be somehow decided to put all their offensive eggs in the Ryan Fitzpatrick basket. He simply is not starting QB caliber. Period, end of story. This could be a breakout year if they had a mid-level NFL QB at the helm, but instead they have stuck with a Harvard QB who is at best a mediocre backup. What a shame.

There ought to be a rule that you can't start a topic until you have at least 500 posts. That way, you have been around long enough to avoid starting a topic that has been beat to death.

That, and you ought to know SOMETHING about football.

Im starting to think Chan and his beloved "system" is the problem. The only one that can understand it from Chan's perspective is a wunderlich-wonder, never mind he lacks the physical tools for the position. With that filter in place any QB who isn't as smart will fail. Never mind that not a single elite QB (Ben, Brady, Brees, Rogers, Mannings), scored nearly as high as Fitz. They don't get Chan's system.

Has Chan ever made mention of a system? Or is it just fan-speak?

You have to love the insinuation that if the 'system' is too complicated for Vice Young than dammit, no one this side of Stephen Hawking is going to understand it!

He develops a system for each team he coaches, depending on the talent available, which is what good coaches do. He developed the Bills system based on the fact we had a crappy line that could not hold their blocks for more than 2-3 seconds, and most of the talent in the receiving corp was the possession variety, combined with two QBs who were known for their short passing game based on quick reads, mostly pre-snap (Trent and Fitz). When Trent left he has modified it a little to fit more of Fitz's strengths and weaknesses, as well as learning how great Fred Jackson was and incorporating the RB into the pass game.

Yeah BS, he pulled the same crap on defense yapping about how great the 3-4 was. And 2 bad drafts and disastrous seasons later trying to convert to it, we're going back to 4-3.

He doesn't coach defense. He barely pays attention to them, especially this year. He hired Edwards to be the DC because 3-4 defenses gave his offenses more fits than 4-3 defenses did. Hiring Edwards was easily Gailey's worst decision since his hire. I didnt like it at the time and it was disastrous. But he had little to no say in how they played the defensive scheme. Besides, they played more 4-3 last year than 3-4.
