Doc Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 NFL.com is reporting torn ACL and MCL, and obviously that he's done for the year.
Green Lightning Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 That's a damn shame. Terrible start to a promising career. As Bills fans we have suffered through enough of this kind of stuff to sympathize with Stiller fan.
Johnny Hammersticks Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Terrible thing really. Dareus was just mauling the poor kid on every down.
Johnny Hammersticks Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 If the Bills had picked Decastro most of you guys would be screaming that it was a horrible pick because he is obviously "injury-prone." But because he was picked by the Steelers, it was likely the fieldturf at the Ralph and it is so sad and unfortunate. WTF????? Did you read any of this thread prior to posting this? Folks are saying that DeCastro was injured because he got dominated by Dareus, and the center rolled up onto his leg. Big Ben blaming the field turf is just ridiculous.
NoSaint Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 There's no doubt that in a perfect world every stadium would have natural grass. Maybe in a decade he should take it up with his Union who stupidly negotiated a 10 year agreement. Bottom-line: The turf wasn't the deciding factor in DeCastro's injury. He was bull-rushed and crumpled like a cheap suit. Unfortunately, injuries happen...artificial turf or not. Wasn't blaming it, but saying why a player would be mentioning it. I'd guess they are well aware that it seems to happen on certain field types even if they are clueless on the biology of how the tear occurs. Maybe not a smart comment, but I get where it comes from
Doc Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 NFL.com is reporting torn ACL and MCL, and obviously that he's done for the year. NFL.com changed their story and now are also reporting just an MCL. Still probably done for the year.
Rico Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I am trying to feel sorry for the Steelers.....so far nothing seems to work the Steelers.
TheKickIsGood Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Roethlisberger should talk. Pittsburgh let a mad man into their stadium with a nuclear bomb and their grass field got clean blown to hell. I bet no one got hurt when that happened, right Big Ben?
Doc Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 BTW, before getting injured, the so-called "best OG prospect in a decade" was a major disappointment in camp and struggling not because of the mental aspect, but because of the physical aspect. Which is no surprise seeing the way Dareus abused him.
BuffBill Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 "We don't obviously know -- well, I don't know what the official word is. This is a great field, but it's FieldTurf, and it's just killing guys because they can't get their feet out of the ground, and it's just another reason we should get rid of FieldTurf." Could he be onto something? Could this explain the bills league leading injury stats ? A good portion of the stadiums in the NFL have the same turf? So doubt that is the reason for the injuries.
truth on hold Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 A good portion of the stadiums in the NFL have the same turf? So doubt that is the reason for the injuries. I think about half are natural grass. (Too lazy to look it up right now). But let's assume your away games are 4 grass, 4 turf, if your home field is grasz you're only 4 on turf, versus 12, so yeah your home field makes a big difference.
marauderswr80 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I thought it was slighty hard....i just thought it would be softer! I even asked arthur moats about it...he said its even worse when hitting the ground. I prefer natural grass....
BobChalmers Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 People have been picking on the DL for the pass rush "disappearing" during the long Steeler drive before half time but I remember several maximum protection passes vs 4 man ruses where the receivers still got wide open or Roethlisberger threaded the needle. That's on the DBs. You can't expect 4 men to beat 7 in protection quickly. You expect that 3 WR can't get open vs 7 in coverage. If the coverage can't hold up then the answer is to blitz to keep the pressure up, but usually when a team has to max protect vs 4 it's not good for their passing game. There was an absolutely obscene holding non-call during that drive around the Buffalo 30. No way the real ref's miss it - a Steeler OL had his arm completely around the throat of a pass-rusher.
RyanC883 Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 What do they have in Pittsburgh, astroturf? Grass. The odd thing is it has terrible draniage, so when Pitt plays on Sat and then Steelers on Sunday it can be more appropriately labeled as "mud" than grass. If he had said "artificial turf makes the probability of that type of injury higher, but he tore his ACL because his line mate fell on his leg," I wouldn't have had a problem with it. But he blamed the turf for it and that's why it was a dumb statement. True, but when did he make the comment? If it was right after the game he may have no idea that their center falling on him is what caused the injury, and thought he got caught on the truf when getting pushed around by Dearus.

Well, you know what happens when you make an assumption.
ExWNYer Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 NFL.com is reporting torn ACL and MCL, and obviously that he's done for the year. NFL.com changed their story and now are also reporting just an MCL. Still probably done for the year. Sirius NFL Radio reported tonight that the ACL was in tact. Torn MCL, dislocated knee cap & torn patellar tendon. Expected to miss 3-5 months.
BuffBill Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 NFL.com is reporting torn ACL and MCL, and obviously that he's done for the year. Also read where he has a dislocated knee cap (ouch) to go along with those injuries. If the Bills had picked Decastro most of you guys would be screaming that it was a horrible pick because he is obviously "injury-prone." But because he was picked by the Steelers, it was likely the fieldturf at the Ralph and it is so sad and unfortunate. WTF????? I read the entire post, I haven't found anyone on here who is saying it is so sad and unfortunate? Are you replying to the wrong post or what, or just didn't feel like reading any of it before replying?
34-78-83 Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Big Ben should blame Marcell Dareus for completely dominating David DeCastro....not the turf. This is true and exactly what happened.... Guards are going to have to be very careful trying to Anchor against Dareus this year and beyond. He is an absolute beast.
LiterateStylish Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 I've been advocating for a grass field for years. There is no reason not to have it. Its rare for a high school or college team to use the field and the concrete is shaped in such a way for great drainage.
