MRW Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 2001 wasn't even close to 1985. 2001 was a car wreck. 1985 was a car being hit by a speeding train with a meteroirte crashing into it during an earthquake. Search for: "meteroirte" About 367 results And here I was thinking this page would be the only one I found it on...

macaroni Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I get that everybody is basing this on a pure win/loss record ....... but .... My vote goes to either the 2011 or 2008 teams. Starting the year 5 & 2 last year, and starting 5&1 in 2008 and finishing 6&10 and 7&9 was really a swift kick below the stomach region. I would much MUCH rather know we stink from the get go than be interrupted in the middle of making reservations to the playoffs/super bowl to be notified we suck. just sayin'
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I'm gonna go with 1968. 1-12-1, outscored by 168 points in 14 games. At least it got us OJ.

Really?
DC Tom Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Last year was the worst Bills team of all time? Really? They weren't even the worst team of this decade, which so far only spans two seasons.
Buftex Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I was born in 1965, so not really qualified to speak of those bad late 60's, early 70's teams. My answer is convoluted (as you would expect from me by now): Worst single season team, in my "Bills" life (saying 1972- present): 1985 Bills... the franchise had never reached the heights of a Super Bowl appearance, yet, so they got no benefit of a doubt. The 1985 Bills were just plain gawd- awful. They had jettisoned Joe Ferguson in the off-season, and were putting their trust in Vince Ferragamo...as I recall, Vinny put up some huge numbers his first few games, but couldn't stop throwing picks, and, worst of all, couldn't remember the playbook...he is the first QB I can ever remember (and I know it is common place now) to wear the playbook on his wrist...I remember my dad saying, "man, this guy is a dumb son of a B word" Ferragamo barely lasted a half season in Buffalo, and was shipped off to Green Bay, the only less desirable city in the NFL to play in, at that point. And, the duo of Dufek and Mathison was pretty miserable...my first season as a season ticket holder...got my seasons dirt cheap, cuz they couldn't give them away at that point. And, to top it all off, their #1 pick (first overall), Bruce Smith, looked, and played often, like Baby Huey. The 1984 Bills (also 2-14) are saved, in my eyes, because their first win of the season came against the big bad Cowboys...of course, at that time, we didn't realize the Cowboys were on the cusp of one of the worst periods in their history. Still, one of those wins that everybody remembers... All that said, as bad as those teams were, I preferred them to the misery we endured under Gregg Williams and Dick Jauron. I didn't hate the Mike Mularkey Bills as much. But, somewhere during the 2008 season, for the first time in my life, I stopped looking forward to Bills games... I just hated Dick Juarons teams...not all the players, mind you...but just so uninspiring... they embodied that dull, "play not to lose" philosophy as much as any team, in any sport, that I have followed. Ever. I will say, as big a douche as Gregg Williams was, his teams played with a little more passion. I really think the Jauron era, as a whole, was the worst period in Bills history, during my time as a cognizant Bills fan.

Yours would be a fine answer to "what Bills team disappointed you the most?" For my money (and memory) 1985 takes the cake. It just felt like the Bills would NEVER be good.

Anyone who complains about the whole Bledsoe-Flutie-RJ-Losman-Edwards crapfest clearly never witnessed the Ferragamo/Mathison "controversy".

As fun as last season was, for a while there, those losses to Dallas and San Diego were of the "worst team ever" variety. Bruce Mathison. Vince Ferragamo. Anyone who complains about the whole Bledsoe-Flutie-RJ-Losman-Edwards crapfest clearly never witnessed the Ferragamo/Mathison "controversy". And to think, Bullough didn't even realize, the best QB on the Bills roster that year was Frank Reich...imagine how different Bills history might have been if Reich had become the starter that year! As bad as the 1985 Bills were, they also had Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, and Darryl Talley on the roster...
macaroni Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Last year was the worst Bills team of all time? Really? Last years team was actually one of my favorites as a bunch of guys playing football ..... but as E-ball so aptly corrected me ... was also one of my most dissapointing ... and as for the 2008 team I thought we had finally replaced Kelly .... we finally had our franchise QB .... then the team .... and he went into the crapper I've been a fan from the first days of the Buffalo Bills ... and those two teams just tore my heart out. Give me a stumbling rumbling bunch of losers and I can enjoy a season of comic relief ... show me a glimpse of greatness then snatch it away .... I don't even want to think about it ... it makes me tear up a little bit.
mrags Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 To me the Last Juron year was by far the worst I've ever experienced. I'm 33 and never experienced the 70s or early 80s. I don't remember the 85 team. But I do remember that Juron year or every Juron year for that matter. The worst is that in the first 1 and 1/2 years you felt like they were actually going in the right direction by the 3rd year I was extremely pessimistic and willing to give benefit of doubt until proved wrong and once Cleveland came here on a nice fall day I was telling myself I will go to games but will not hope for a win until Juron is fired. I got lucky a few weeks later and was ready to jump back on the wagon. I feel that way about the 08 team not the 11 team. 11 had players I enjoyed, sucks what happened but at least I was able to enjoy the players we had. The 08 made every one of my friends (6) who had season tickets bail for the following season and for the future of season tickets. Solo from now on for me.
Meathead Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 i barely remember that '76 team because i went to a game with my friend and his father. it was the game the fans finally shouted enough to convince them to start gary marangi. and boy did he suck out loud. man that was an awful season. that was back at a time when i also liked the dolphins so i pretty much hardly watched the bills and rooted for the fish. what can i say i was a retard back then of teams i actually remember and paid a lot of attention to, im down with '85. of all the teams that were hard to watch they were just brutally bad. it was like chans first eight games but all season long and getting worse. ferragamo was about as washed up as you can get, he made trent edwards look brilliant. bruce was a fat and lazy rookie. the only thing good on that team was greg bell. awful awful team
mattsox Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I tend to think about teams in terms of coaches. And I'm just old enough to remember Harvey Johnson's reign. He led the Bills to an impressive 1-10 record in '68 and then we let him head-coach again in '71 when he master-minded a 1-13 season. We were truly pathetic. Those two games we won under Johnson were shocking. The players and fans expected to lose every week. Jim Ringo - a good offensive line coach - was nearly as horrible as a head coach - earning a 3-20 record (1976-1977). Then there was the tough-minded defensive coordinator, Hank Bullough, who came with a good resume (one of the innovators of the 3-4) but produced just 4 wins in 21 games (1985-1986). We Bills fans have been blessed with some truly awful teams. Thank you Ralph Wilson for the Decades of Futility us fans have endured. Do we get a prize for enduring such poor ownership/management???
chris heff Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 1968 I think by the end of the season Ed Rutkowski was the QB.

DJasper Probincrux III Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I have to go with the 85 Bills. You can't beat the Ferragamo/Mathison Combo - could be one of the worst QB displays as a team of all time. http://www.pro-footb...ms/buf/1985.htm Don't leave out Joe Dufek!
Rico Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 2003 by far... the most underachieving team in Bills history, loaded with gutless quitters.
HansLanda Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 1985 I'm sure was bad but my memory doesn't dwell on that as much as the 3-13 Gregg/Chris Watson team. Anytime Watson was on the field the ball was getting thrown at him and he had no chance. That team in a nutshell.
