truth on hold Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) As stated, I see the tax issue as bogus unless he did something illegal. And I haven't seen any of main antagonists like Reid even make that accusation. But his hypocrisy on Viet Nam - on one hand attending pro-war rallies, while on the other using his religious affiliation to avoid being drafted - is very unsettling. I thought all his war talk was playing to the neocon audience, designed to make Obama look "weak on defense", and draw in big bucks from donors like pro-Israel hawk Sheldon Adelson. But his actions going back to his undergrad days at Stanford show he really may be a big war supporter, while callously avoiding the conflicts he supports. Abusing his own religion toward that end. This is speaks VERY BAD for what he may do as President IMO. "Though an early supporter of the Vietnam War, Romney avoided military service at the height of the fighting after high school by seeking and receiving four draft deferments, according to Selective Service records. They included college deferments and a 31-month stretch as a "minister of religion" in France, a classification for Mormon missionaries that the church at the time feared was being overused." Romney's (non) military record faces new scrutiny Edited August 6, 2012 by Joe_the_6_pack
truth on hold Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Is his any worse than Clinton's? Wow Doc, jump right to a "what about the Democrats?!!" evasive maneuver. You really think Romney's record is so undefendable you have to hit the panic button so quickly? Sighting a guy he's not even running against? Wow just wow Edited August 6, 2012 by Joe_the_6_pack
The Big Cat Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Someone asked me once if I knew the difference between a civilian and a citizen. I know now. A citizen has the courage to make the safety of the human race their personal responsibility

LeviF Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Someone asked me once if I knew the difference between a civilian and a citizen. I know now. A citizen has the courage to make the safety of the human race their personal responsibility I sincerely believe that Starship Troopers should be mandatory viewing for all American males.
Doc Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Wow Doc, jump right to a "what about the Democrats?!!" evasive maneuver. You really think Romney's record is so undefendable you have to hit the panic button so quickly? Sighting a guy he's not even running against? Wow just wow My bad. So you're worried that he's going to start wars left and right?
TakeYouToTasker Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 viewing Psst... You misspelled "reading".
LeviF Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Psst... You misspelled "reading". Credited; the book is much better than the movie. Edit: though the movie is still awesome. Edited August 6, 2012 by LeviF91
DC Tom Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Psst... You misspelled "reading". Though that was the general gist of the book, I think that line wasn't in the book but was in the movie.
truth on hold Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) My bad. So you're worried that he's going to start wars left and right? I'm concerned what someone who has a hypocritical pro-war attitude but goes to great lengths not fighting them (to the point of abusing his religion in avoidance) may do as president; the position with the greatest influence on what conflicts we engage in. Edited August 7, 2012 by Joe_the_6_pack
....lybob Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 non-issue, Dick Cheney set the bar for being 100% pro-military intervention while doing everything in his power not to serve in the military himself- Romney is just one in a long line of chicken-hawks.
TakeYouToTasker Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Though that was the general gist of the book, I think that line wasn't in the book but was in the movie. I think it was paraphrased in both.

Concern is fine. But what he'll do in office is anyone's guess.
Nanker Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) So let me get this straight. He accepted a college deferment - for four years while he went to Stanford and BYU. That's clearly immoral if not down right illegal. Then, to complete his hubris, he accepted a 31 month mission in the LDS church in France. Abhorrent! Sacre bleu! Can you please explain to me just exactly how he abused his own religion when they called him to that service? I can understand your mistrust of people who haven't served in the armed forces becoming President. There are no guarantees. Even a Novel Nobel Peace Prize doesn't mean that the Oval Office occupant won't send cruise missiles into aspirin factories or use Predator spy planes to track Americans abroad and unleash Hellfire upon them from the safe comfortable confines of the Presidential Situation Room. Why, if elected President, Mitt might return us to the horror of capturing terrorists instead of bombing them and hundreds of INNOCENT civilians, and putting them in Guantanamo- which conveniently remains OPEN. Do I really care about his Vietnam record? Does anyone?
Chef Jim Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 So in order to be pro-war you are required to go head first into battle?
DC Tom Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I must have missed the part where Romney was pro-war...
