TakeYouToTasker Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Flawed poll is flawed. Where is the option for "The Income Tax should be abolished and replaced with a 25% federal consumption tax with exemptions for food and clothing"
Koko78 Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Everyone should pay something, even if it's $25 taken from their first welfare payment of the year.
TakeYouToTasker Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Everyone should pay something, even if it's $25 taken from their first welfare payment of the year. It seems counter-intuitive to pay someone to administer welfare payments, and then to pay another person to take back a portion of the money they were just given, when the stated goal is saving money. Just sayin'.

Just sayin'. Heh, that wouldn't even make the top 10 of most counter-intuitive things in the welfare system.
mead107 Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Everyone should pay something. Under 18 pays nothing Over 75 and or in a nursing home pays nothing.
Buff_bills4ever Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Under $50,000 a year shouldn't pay anything. They aren't paying anything now anyway, why pay the administrative costs to take their money then give it back to them?
KD in CA Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Nobody should pay an effective rate of 25%, even including social security. Not that many do now other than high earners. If you really want to make sure every is paying their fair share, abolish personal exemptions and schedule A entirely (charitable contributions should be the only deduction). Everyone pays on their true gross income, so high earners aren't getting credit for state taxes, mortgage interest, etc. and welfare bums aren't getting paid to procreate. Of course, taxing productivity rather than consumption is the dumbest idea ever, but there's little hope we'll ever reverse that colossal mistake.
dayman Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Everyone should pay something. Under 18 pays nothing Over 75 and or in a nursing home pays nothing. Why should under 18 pay no tax?
TakeYouToTasker Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Why should under 18 pay no tax? My guess would be "because, lacking the franchise, they have no say in their rate of taxation and therefore should be exempt from the obligation to pay," but again, that's just my guess.
/dev/null Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Everyone should pay something. Under 18 pays nothing Over 75 and or in a nursing home pays nothing. So Ralph shouldn't pay anything?
DC Tom Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 What sort of taxes? Income tax? Real estate tax? Sales tax? Inheritance tax? Stupid poll.
dayman Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 My guess would be "because, lacking the franchise, they have no say in their rate of taxation and therefore should be exempt from the obligation to pay," but again, that's just my guess. True. Under 18 should do whatever they want.
DC Tom Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Why should under 18 pay no tax? Because, like Olympic athletes, they "work hard".
peterpan Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 No one should pay any income taxes. This country gives out more in welfare each year than it takes in in the personal income tax. If the average citizen knew how much rampant abuse of the welfare system exists, then we likely wouldnt have them at all. we should repeal the 16th ammendment which makes all direct taxes legal. A tax on your wages makes you a slave, which is why they were outlawed in the constitution. If you eliminated most corrupt welfare programs and cut back on a bloated military defense budget we could eliminate income taxes completely and be revenue positive. Under $50,000 a year shouldn't pay anything. They aren't paying anything now anyway, why pay the administrative costs to take their money then give it back to them? under 50k do pay taxes. I got the bill to prove it.

/dev/null Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 At least he realizes the system needs to be fixed You assume the system is broken. For those inside the beltway, the system is working quite well
