Zambian miners killed a Chinese supervisor and seriously wounded another on Saturday in a pay dispute at the Collum coal mine, labour minister Fackson Shamenda said on Sunday.

Chinese companies have invested more than $1 billion in copper-rich Zambia but animosity towards them is growing as Zambian workers accuse firms of abuses and underpaying.

Workers at the Collum mine, situated 325km (200 miles) south of the capital, attacked the Chinese men demanding wage rises in line with those stipulated by the government in July.

Zambia last month raised minimum wages to 522,000 kwacha for maids and household servants, and to 1.1 million kwachafor shop workers without unions.

Minimum wage is 522,000 kwacha? Need anymore proof that Socialism is a joke?

I hate to be the one to point this out, but your conclusion doesn't actually correlate. That would be indicative of poor monetary policy.

Also, for anyone who might be interested, 1.00 ZMK, = 0.000203666 USD.

Or, 500k ZMK equals...$100. Maybe about three chickens?

I'm curious. Do you feel that the Hatian's would be better off without those jobs?

So when you go out and get a BJ from a homeless person you justify yourself by thinking well that's two dollars he/she wouldn't have had otherwise- the argument of the morally bankrupt- give us your starving your desperate so we can pay them as little as possible, work them as hard as possible, and not care a wit about their health or safety.

What kind of a horseshit argument is this?

First of all, blatant strawman.

Secondly, there isn't a single school of economics that agrees with you. It is exactly this kind of outsourcing for exactly these types of wages that built the entire domestic economies of India and China from the ground up in less than 3 decades. The truth is that $1000/year has an awesome purchasing power in Haiti, and is allowing capital formation to take place which organically creates improvements in their quality of life. Not just that, but I don't see anyone else rushing off to invest in the people, economy, and infrastructure of Haiti. Where are your dollars?

Lastly, I understand that people use examples that highlight their own personal experiences, but I don't think anyone else here shares your particular fondness for $2 hookers.

I haven't read the specifics of this article, but generally speaking if you offer someone a job and they voluntarily accept because it is better than their alternative it's hard to say they're not better off for the opportunity.

Reminds me of a story an African guy told me years ago. I forget the details, but some American company came to his country. The jobs paid **** by our standard, but it was far and away the best opportunity that existed for them. Do-gooders incensed at the exploitation raised a fuss, company leaves town, Africans go back to eating a termite around the fire. Chalk up a victory for the do-gooders.

Looks like the Chinese found out they can't do what they do to their own people, to other people. The hard way.

Do you really think they give a crap about their "supervisor" being dead? They're commies. They'll find another supervisor.

Tasker I think people of your ilk are POS - and what I wish for you is that some day you live in the country of your dreams when you crash your car and are trapped inside and as the car catches fire privatized rescue workers come to save you but first make you agree to give all your money and possessions as you get closer to burning to death- and if you chose life I hope a judge enforces that contract saying well you have to agree being penniless is better than being dead.

So nothing of substance to offer? No refutation of the economic history of two of the world's largest economies? No counter evidence of great socialist societies investing in the Haitian people? No grandiose cutting edge economic theories about the lack of a need for capital formation to drive economic growth?

All you brought to the table was some Carlylesque utopian socialist platitudes and your expressed desire to see me involved in a firey car crash?

Stay classy.

Tom I'm sure you have come to terms with your moral depravity and can in no way be offended. Now scamper off and defend LIBOR rigging, laundering drug money, stealing form segregated accounts or whatever else you do when not on PPP.

Because nothing says "I've got the moral high ground," quite like wishing people you disagree with would be involved in horrific automobile accidents.

And nothing says "moral depravity" like believing health care and health insurance are two different things, and the ACA is nonsense.
