dhg Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I've been a DT fan since I&W came out. That said, I think they peaked with Scenes from a Memory and I haven't been quite as enthralled with their albums since then. I haven't listened to any songs from the newest album (aside from the one that was nominated for a Grammy, and while I thought it was ok, I didn't think it was great). That said, they still have a ton of great albums that I love listening to. I think that was their peak too. Really liked Octavarium and SDoIT but not so much the releases after those. Big Portnoy fan and am giving Mangini a chance, and he is good, but miss the style, songwriting and even backing vocals that MP added. My guess is he's back for the next album.
The Poojer Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 How do you think he got his name??? "...parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme...and lentils..." You had mean parent Sage. Mean.
LewPort71 Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 ELP, Yes, Genesis(Peter Gabriel) , Beatles, TSO.
Fezmid Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 ELP, Yes, Genesis(Peter Gabriel) , Beatles, TSO. Speaking of TSO - tour dates announced! http://trans-siberian.com/tour1/index.php?utm_source=JangoMail&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=TSO+Winter+Tour+2012+Announcement%3A+The+Lost+Christmas+Eve+%28276119100%29&utm_content=whit0421%40yahoo.com And they're not doing "Christmas Eve and Other Stories" this year, they're instead doing "The Lost Christmas Eve" to mix it up a bit . Can't wait, although disappointed that they're in MN the weekend after Christmas.
Fixxxer Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Metallica by far. After that is tough to rank Black Sabbath Samshing Pumpkins Pearl Jam Sepultura Led Zeppelin
BillsFanNC Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Overall, it's Rush by far. Other bands that are up there: Porcupine Tree, Metallica, Zeppelin, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Blue Rodeo, 54-40, Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Over the past six months it's by far: STEEL PANTHER!!! 80's radio rock (think VH, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Def Leppard, Motley Crue etc.) better than those bands ever did it.

That said, they still have a ton of great albums that I love listening to. That was definitely their peek - Imo it's one of the all time great albums and their best (with Images and Words not too far behind.) That being said they've had A LOT of quality stuff since then. The Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence album was amazing and they've had solid offerings since then with some of their best songs on those albums - Panic Attack, Octavarium, Count of Tuscany, Endless Sacrifice, & Breaking All Illusions to name a few (the last being on their newest album - go have a listen it's fantastic.)
birdog1960 Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 All time: beatles, Peter Gabriel, Neil young Recent: Norah Jones, Adele, Allison Krause, Red Molly

Small crowd. And I like the change in the show
Rob's House Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Cake. Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, GNR, Sublime, The Violent Femmes, and LL Cool J all had their day in my stereo, but Cake takes the cake.
The Poojer Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) Can you explain to me why I am not a wilco fan? They kind of remind me of my morning jacket and I like them...don't love em but I do like it. Perhaps its the hype surrounding wilco....I mean I've heard more than one person say Yankee Foxtrot Hotel is this generations Sgt. Pepper..I don't get it...I'm feeling left out... ....and steel panther leaves those other hair bands in the dust...they are awesome....think john valby in a hair metal band... :-) Overall, it's Rush by far. BillsFanNC Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Many iconic Panther songs, this is one of the few that is semi-SFW. Just Like Tiger Woods If you don't golf that's okay You can be a tiger anyway Lie through your teeth when things gets tough Or your balls are gonna wind up in the rough, yeah yeah If you wanna be like Tiger Woods Fertalise the ladies in the neighbourhood Get real rich and you will find All the hot chicks will want to grind If you wanna be like Tiger Woods Grip that shaft like you know you should Get a platinum card, it will be all good The girls will want you just like Tiger Woods Remember this when you're having fun Three holes are better than a hole in one, yeah If the word gets out don't be afraid When a 9 iron's heading for your escalade, yeah yeah If you wanna be like Tiger Woods Filling all the divots in the neighbourhood Don't worry about those 3-foot putts You cover your tracks when you're banging them sluts If you wanna be like Tiger Woods Text messages are never good Nail a girl at the driving range Your life will change, just like Tiger Woods Have your best friend book all your flights Tell your wife that you're golfing nights Get a call girl and maybe just chill Be willing to part with a hundred mill Bang a new pornstar every day Tell your sponsors it will be okay Surprise them all with an invitation To a viewing of your first double penetration, yeah If you wanna be like Tiger Woods Poking all the holes in the neighbourhood Tell your wife how it's gonna be Your driver is community property If you wanna be like Tiger Woods Become the king of your neighbourhood Like Steel Panther and Tiger Woods Just like Tiger Woods, oh yeah yeah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzq5q9NX8CY

Perhaps its the hype surrounding wilco....I mean I've heard more than one person say Yankee Foxtrot Hotel is this generations Sgt. Pepper..I don't get it...I'm feeling left out... Well I certainly was more into Wilco immediately after the Uncle Tupelo split. The albums AM, Being There and Summerteeth are still their best IMO. I liked YHF, but I don't feel it's as great as some others do. After YHF Wilco kind of lost me, they got way too out there and mellow. I heard some of their recent albums described as "dad rock". Having said that, I really enjoyed their most recent album, The Whole Love, it has moments on it that remind me of those first three records. One Sunday Morning from that album is one of my favorite Wilco songs. I am a big My Morning Jacket fan too btw. ....and steel panther leaves those other hair bands in the dust...they are awesome....think john valby in a hair metal band... :-) That's a great way to describe Steel Panther. They started out as a VH tribute band on sunset strip. I've seen them do DLR era VH covers and they are note for note spot on. They will be at the Rapids Theater in Niagara Falls next week (8/8) for any WNYers who want to check them out.
truth on hold Posted August 2, 2012 Author Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) If youre taking it that direction, sorry but there'll only be one Tap Edited August 2, 2012 by Joe_the_6_pack
BillsFanNC Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 If youre taking it that direction, sorry but there'll only be one Tap For the parody aspect of the act absolutely. For musicianship, not even close IMO.
Delete This Account Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) The Replacements: "Can't Hardly Wait," (so many versions of song) likely followed by "Bastards of Young." Drive-By Truckers: "Ghost to Most," likely followed by either "Space City" or "George Jones Talkin Cell Phone Blues." Rolling Stones: "Tumbling Dice." very likely Marshall Crenshaw: "Someday, Someway." and most definitely, Steve Earle's "Galway Girl." also in that mix is The Clash's "Clampdown" or "Death or Glory," as well as most everything off of Elvis Costello's "My Aim is True" album, particularly "Alison." I pretty much wore that record out when it first came out, as I did with The Pretenders' first album, particularly "Up the Neck," "Tattooed Love Boys" and "Brass in Pocket." this is just off the top of my head. jw Edited August 2, 2012 by john wawrow

"alison" is one of my most listened to songs as well, with "watching the detectives" a close second. that album was brilliant.
