what do those voter registration numbers really tell you?

 

Not as many are registering? If you have an established area where people are not constantly moving .... you don't need to register.

 

It could mean young people are registering as an independent or that they chose to register for the OTHER party so they can influence the primaries.

 

DINO - if you live in a Dem region and you are an R the only way you can influence a primary is to be part of that party.

While I paid pretty close attention to the 2008 presidential election, I don't recall reading about the kind of headaches we're seeing on the campaign trail for the incumbent this year.

 

I keep reading Twitter comments about the VA bakery (Crumb and Get It) turning down a Biden visit because of the "You didn't build that" comment. And now RCP has the story below breaking down how on each day of this three-day Iowa trip, Obama was tripping over opposition: the beer tent he shut down at the fair with the owner complaining he lost $25K because of the timing of the event; the wind farm where the owner let him on the property, but afterwards explained that he was just being courteous and Obama is destroying the economy; and finally on his third day he goes into a deli for another photo only to find one of the guys behind the counter wearing a Romney "You didn't build that" t-shirt.

It's hard to tell if the Obama campaign is just becoming more incompetent, or if they are simply overwhelmed with so many people afraid of what another four years of Obama will do.

I think what it says is that back in 2008, the opposition to Obama wouldn't of felt as emboldened as it does today, there is widespread feelings that Obama hasn't lived up to his promise and people aren't as afraid to show that like they did in 08.

Wait...he shut down the beer tent? That's it, he's gone too far.

Actually, not only did he shut it down for two hours, but during the busiest two hours of the day while a concert was taking place. According to a local report, the beer tent operator was permitted to set up a small keg and tent by the stage because people were getting pissed.

 

It doesn't mean anything in the grand scope of things. It's just...y'know...you're an incumbent whose only hope to win re-election is to talk about dogs on cars. Do you really think taking beer away during a concert at the Iowa State Fair is a good idea?

Americans are over their Celebrity in Chief. The 2008 election was about one man and one man only, Barack Obama. It's clear that after four years of total failure and disappointment the kool-aid has worn off (except those who are completely delusional), the race card has been worn out and 2012 election is about WE THE PEOPLE.

 

Rush jokes about Obama being the Kim Kardashian president, but it really does seem as if America has had their fill of a celebrity who became wildly successful for doing absolutely nothing except giving soaring speeches. Four years later, it seems a lot of Obama supporters have come to the obvious realization that they were completely hoodwinked. We can thank the celebrity worship culture and the MSM for giving us Obama. As with all celebrities, there's a short shelf life before the worship and adulation turns to general dislike.

 

As it did with Jimmy Carter, America appears ready to dump a failed president and awaken from it's deep recessionary slumber.

Going back to the registered voters thing. Is it really a good thing that people are dropping for the Democartic and Republican party? All that will remain would be the far left and far right. Then, they will continue to nominate polarizing figures. I know in some states, Independents can vote in primaries but in a lot, they are closed primaries.

 

Just something to think about. If people want better candidates, they're probably going to have to do it through either political party.

It is always a good thing when you make sure that people who aren't eligible to vote, can't, and those who are eligible, can.

In the innocent, bygone days of February, President Obama told NBC News that the campaign would get negative against him, but provided this assurance: “I think that you will be able to see how we conduct ourselves in the campaign. I think it will be consistent with how I conducted myself in 2008 and hopefully how I have conducted myself as president of the United States.”

 

Not since Gary Hart urged reporters to follow him around because “they’d be very bored” has an assurance been more of an indictment. The Obama campaign has targeted and intimidated Republican donors on an Internet enemies list. It has engaged in the juvenile mockery of Mitt Romney’s singing. It has suggested, without evidence, that Romney may have committed the felony of falsifying Federal Election Commission documents. It has speculated, without proof, that Romney has avoided paying taxes. When Joe Biden engages in racially charged hyperbole, he is awkwardly but accurately reflecting the spirit of the 2012 Obama campaign.

 

But the most vivid accusation(made by a closely associated PAC and embraced by the campaign itself) is that Romney’s ruthless business practices were responsible for the closing of a firm, the loss of a couple’s health insurance and thus the death of a woman from cancer.

 

Obama’s defenders assure us that everyone does it. But not everyone does this. It is one thing to exploit a misstatement; another to exploit a tragedy. It is one thing to mischaracterize a federal waiver; another to accuse an opponent of being the Angel of Death.

 

For the Obama campaign, this is not an aberration; it is a culmination. The demonization of Romney is a main element of its strategy, pursued by Obama’s closest associates and former employees, not by loosely affiliated partisan groups. Deniability is not even remotely plausible, but it doesn’t remotely matter. Even when exposed, the Obama campaign never retracts, never apologizes — convinced that the news cycle will quickly erase inconvenient memories.

I just saw a clip, so it might me more absurd than what I saw, but it looked like he was making a point. He obviously can't rely on the media to tell the truth about his plan so he seers it in the minds of people by presenting it so simply that even a caveman could understand.
