Chuckknox Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Will this matter when the weather gets colder? I am not sure since the ball seems to get there and most of the guys catch it.
Booger Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Will this matter when the weather gets colder? I am not sure since the ball seems to get there and most of the guys catch it. Sure hope so since Fitz does not throw a tight one...
Homer Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 (edited) Its the same difference between a rifle and a muzzle loader...spin adds to accuracy. Maybe Fitz should be called the Amish muzzleloader instead of Amish rifle. Edited July 28, 2012 by Homer

H2o Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 A spiral thrown by the same person tends to be more accurate, travels farther, and has greater velocity versus throwing a wobbler.
Jim in Anchorage Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Its the same difference between a rifle and a muzzle loader...spin adds to accuracy. Maybe Fitz should be called the Amish muzzleloader instead of Amish rifle. That would be a smooth bore rather then a muzzle loader. Maybe the Amish blunder buss.
jimmy10 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 A spiral passover? What the heck is that? It's that thing when you say your prayers and then serve kosher rotini pasta to the prophet Elijah.
Homer Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 That would be a smooth bore rather then a muzzle loader. Maybe the Amish blunder buss. Ugh I meant Musket instead of muzzleloader...so he could be the Amish Musket...which sounds better anyway.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 A spiral passover? What the heck is that? A type of ham?
Fan in San Diego Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 A spiral is all about aerodynamics. A tight spiral can cut thru the air more efficiently. On a windy day it makes a huge difference if the ball gets to the intended target or not.
KD in CA Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Ugh I meant Musket instead of muzzleloader...so he could be the Amish Musket...which sounds better anyway. Best thread this morning.....
Alphadawg7 Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Will this matter when the weather gets colder? I am not sure since the ball seems to get there and most of the guys catch it. Considering the emphasis QB coaches, HC's and OC's put on it, I am going to say no. Wobblers are a clear indicator of poor mechanics...poor mechanics = decreased accuracy, decreased velocity, and inconsistency. So, no, I do not think it is over rated. Not to mention, ask any receiver, a spiral is substantially easier to catch than a wobbler, especially at longer distances and higher velocity. Its also much easier to gauge the precise spot the ball is going to be to catch on a spiral because the arc is more true as the ball cuts through the wind and air better and doesnt lose velocity as much as a wobbler. A wobbler will see a more dramatic loss of velocity mid flight as the aerodynamics knocks the ball down more. So the arc suggests it will be in one spot but come up short. There is no way a spiral is over rated.
buffalover4life Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 sport science start watching at 7 minutes "A little wobbble is enough to keep the ball on target, its actually needed" "to much wobble 4 degrees or more can make the ball off target by up to 5 feet."
