San Jose Bills Fan Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) "I'm a much smarter player and much more technical now," he said. "I know a lot more about the game. When you don't have those physical tools the last three years and being able to blow by a guy or great pass rush ability you start to learn more about the game and you get a little bit more technically sound. And that's what happened. Now my body is ready to take that on again along with the knowledge I've picked up over the last few years. It's going to be good." http://blogs.buffalo...d-for-merriman/ Edited July 22, 2012 by San Jose Bills Fan
NoSaint Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I'm still so cautious in getting my hopes up but man how he could change everything if he was at 90%
jimmy10 Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Anything more than 0% Merriman is gravy. I wish him all the very best in the world, that's for sure.
DC Tom Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 The pessimist in me says he's on IR by week 3. The optimist says - ah, who'm I kidding? I don't have an inner optimist.
shoretalk Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I'm still so cautious in getting my hopes up but man how he could change everything if he was at 90% Seeing what he was able to do in the preseason last year while operating hurt was amazing ... I'd take 75% of LIGHTS OUT as a pass rush specialist and we'll be so hard to stop! I am an eternal optimist but in Merriman's case I need to see him in the midst of some intense physical contact to believe that he is back. But, all the signs indicate we may have a special weapon ready to unleash on Sanchez, Brady and the rest of the quarterbacks in the league.
You herd it hear last Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 The pessimist in me says he's on IR by week 3. The optimist says - ah, who'm I kidding? I don't have an inner optimist. At least you're not setting odds on it like some have suggested. I hear ya though. But he very well could be THE most talented player on the Bills. This is the season he proves it wasn't the roids.
swnybillsfan Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 i am really hoping that he is truly healthy now. if he has a role to play it is certainly more than just pass rush specialist. we've seen shawne merriman the cheerleader and recruiter, now i'm ready to see shawne merriman the emotional leader.
White Linen Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I've said this in another thread. By all accounts Merriman is healthy. But that's walking around health, now he has to obviously show if the injury can withstand NFL punishment. None of us, including him, know that. But if the injury is in the past, we have one of the elite talents in all the NFL getting ready to play for us. Don't bore me with the Kelsay and Anderson talk. If Shawne's ready to go, he comes out when he waves over to the sideline.

However it is highly encouraging that for the first time in years he was able to participate in every practice during the offseason without any limitations. That, in and of itself is a huge hurdle. This guy knows his body and I believe he is very confident that he will be able to more than hold up to the rigors of football.
The Senator Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 If Lights-Out says lights-on, I can only say this... 19 and 0 baby!!!!!
Doc Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I've got $50 riding on him lasting more than 4 games. I like my chances.
spartacus Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) sounds like he sees the end of his career if he stays clean - so he is probably getting that chemical enhancement that was so important early in his career With the NFLPA stonewalling the NFL on blood testing - any HGH use by Merriman will probably go undetected the "knowledge" he picked up was the failure to institute testing tyht could catch HGH use l Edited July 23, 2012 by spartacus
machine gun kelly Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Let's not fool ourselves. There is a lot hgh out there. I wouldn't doubt it on him, but others as well. Bottom line is if he is finally healthy, we have a nice rotation between him and Kelsey behind the other Ends, and then possibly Edwards, and Johnson behind the inside guys with maybe Carrington as the developmental player, we are going to be good. That was a nice story today in M. Williams having very little talent around him, and plugging away for years. He was hurt with the pectoral tear by game 5 when he finally had a supporting cast. That means he's never had Lights Out, and the rest there so the future looks bright. Can't wait for mid September. 19-0! MGK

MGK I'd say the majority of NFL players, and pro athletes in general, are on HGH.

What stopped him from using HGH earlier to make his "comeback?" There's never been HGH testing in the NFL. Even by your standards…
You herd it hear last Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 I'd say the majority of NFL players, and pro athletes in general, are on HGH. don't forget about the coaches, cheerleaders, and front office personnel. that's what i'd say.
machine gun kelly Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 I agree with San Jose. I never understood why Lights Out never took the right and longer steps to fully repair and recover a few years ago the achilles. I'm happy for the guy, and glad we gave him a shot. I also don't fault any of these guys that take that risk on hgh. For many they have no other career and know this is their shot to make as much G Jack as possible. They take every and any risk for our enjoyment. I'm not saying I condone, want mysons to make that choice, but I do understand it. I hope he for the sake of us, and his family is back and ready to go. Wat a great story! Can you hear it on NFL Network, ESPN with Berman, CBS Pre-Game, etc where there is that feel good story of Merriman is back, Mario after his injury is back, Kelsey is now showing what he can do, etc.? This could be a season of much adou about nothing or a spectacular story in week 9 where we are 7-2, walking into the easier part of the season. Go Bills!!!
