Optometric Insight Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Only went up to 7 because the NFL modern era record for most shutouts in a season is 5. The Giants had 10 shutouts but that was in 1920. I changed 7 to 7+. If you choose 7+, post what your actual number choice was. Edited July 16, 2012 by Teen Insight
The Cincinnati Kid Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I said 0 just because they are pretty uncommon. When a team is losing late, and the winning team calls off the dogs, a pass interference or some missed tackles can lead to a meaningless field goal or TD. Shutouts, to me, don't matter. Wins matter.
PearlHowardman Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Our Defense is likely to generate 2-3 shutouts by the mid-point of the season. But once the Defense sees how bad QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is they'll stop wasting their time playing hard because Fitz' limited skills will start losing a lot of games. I don't see the logic in your post either. It doesn't make sense. Baltimore, Tampa never had their D quit.
SageAgainstTheMachine Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I went with 1. They aren't that common, but I think if Miami starts trying out Tannehill we can shut them out once.
Dorkington Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 This isn't an insult to the defense, but rather more a comment on the changing NFL. It's incredibly difficult to keep any team from scoring for an entire game these days. I went with 2. And those two games, I believe are non-TD, but still scoring via field goals.
ChasBB Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) I voted one shutout. Even the '85 Bears had only 2 shutouts (in the regular season -- they added two more in the playoffs for a total of 4 shutouts) Edited July 16, 2012 by ChasBB
Gugny Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 In the age of the QB and the rules that inhibit the defense, I don't think there will be 7 shutouts this year, league-wide. I said Zero.
devldog131 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 19. Every game. to quote the Senator... "19-0 Baby!"

If the D is posting shut outs, we cannot possibly lose. Why would they quit playing hard?
Astrobot Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I said 1, then I watched the Bills INT Video and revised it to 16.
PearlHowardman Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 If the D is posting shut outs, we cannot possibly lose. Why would they quit playing hard? Because third string QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start losing games for us. So, why waste time playing hard if your mediocre QB can't win games?

Homey D. Clown Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I have a feeling we're getting a little ahead of ourselves with the notion they're going to pitch a ton of shutouts, but it is fine with me to see people believing the defense will be greatly improved and getting excited about it this year...
Buffalos#1Fan Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 You should be a TV analyst. skip bayless quality?
muffmonster Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Because third string QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start losing games for us. So, why waste time playing hard if your mediocre QB can't win games? Kind of funny I remember Fitz winning some games for us last season when our D was continually giving up 30 points.
JeffNixonFan Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I went with none. Shutouts are just so rare that the Bills can be really, really good and still not get one.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 2 with a * meaning O TD's not necessarily a 0 on the scoreboard.
