What makes you think that if the Founders were still around, they wouldn't do the same think in 2012 they did then? WE may have become a nation of wimps, but the Founders certainly weren't, and those same men and women wouldn't be today..

It is just insanity that the Republicans want to cut everything but the military. We need to stop the bleeding there as we spend as much on military as the rest of the world combined, and we can't sustain that anymore. We have too many bases around the world that not only cost us $ but cause resentment by the local people, especially in the middle east. It doesn't help our economy too much and potentially gets us involved in unneccesary wars, which only further stress our economy. The main job of the Federal government is to defend the country. Not social programs or welfare giveaways. The necessity of engaging in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam or whatever is certainly debatable, but the need for a strong, superior capable military is not.
