Forward!
DaveinElma Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 He needs to give his base a reason to vote for him in November. Some more Obama-checks should do the trick.
TakeYouToTasker Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Quick, someone remind me, what exactly is the role of congress again? I could have sworn it was to craft legislation dictating taxation and spending policy, but clearly I was wrong.
DaveinElma Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Unreal. But not unexpected. Barry's getting desperate. That's why I'm not too worried as Obama will be out of the white house soon and the senate is looking favorable for the republicans. Any powergrabs like this should be short-lived.

Silly John Galt, the role of Congress is write laws approving the actions of the President
DC Tom Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Quick, someone remind me, what exactly is the role of congress again? I could have sworn it was to craft legislation dictating taxation and spending policy, but clearly I was wrong. It's easy - and accurate - to call Obama's presidency the "Imperial Presidency" as the article does. But in point of fact, he's just the latest to take advantage of the slippery slope the government's been on since...I don't know, maybe Kennedy. But this is the next logical step from Bush's "signing statements" - rather than interpretation of bills as they're signed into law, re-interpretation of existing laws. You would think, though, that a "constitutional scholar" would know better.
TakeYouToTasker Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I would argue that it's the slippery slope we've been on probably since Washington put down the Whiskey Rebelion, and minimally since Marbury v. Madison, but yes, I take your point.

DC Tom Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I feel like you've got your chronology screwed up... Remember when you tried to argue with EII and came away dumber? Yeah, same thing's going to happen with Dave.
UConn James Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 At this point, he's not even trying to disguise it.

They were produced and written in 2008. It's Bush's fault.
WorldTraveller Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 This story isn't being covered by the media. I haven't seen it in WAPO, politico, ny times or any other outlet other than the right wing ones. If I was a journalist, I would like to get Clinton's opinion of obamas decision to gut his signature piece of legislation.

UConn James Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) How is that any different than the census bureau adds for that told people to fill out their census forms to get their fair share? http://libertyandpride.com/2010-census-giving-you-your-fair-share/ Because encouraging filling out a census form doesn't involve saying, 'Hey, you. Yeah, you. Over there. All y'all can sidle right up here and get free money! Does it matter if you have a good diet already and this will practically force you into the over-adulterated food cycle so you can join the rest of America in being obese? Hell no. Sign up for continual benefits so you can spend your other money on DVDs, beer, and porn! Good thing you're listening to soap operas in the middle of the day rather than working, huh?!!?'
