The Bills injuries have added a great degree of complexity to our roster situation and created some odd effects in my judgment. For example, I think the Losman and Brown injuries cost Antonio Brown any chance at even winning a job by running back a KO for a TD. The need to keep 4 QBs on the roster on a team which would keep 3 QBs and even did 2 last year meant that our return guy had to also contribute at another roster spot. Brown was a WR on the depth chart only and we could not afford to keep a guy who only did returns. McGee looked pretty good in his chances and even without him playing last weekend he won this job.

Dorenbos, another specialty guy is in danger and it remains to be seen Thursday whether there is a position player who can snap who will give us this roster spot.

Another interesting occurence is that I think Ryan Neufeld showed enough at TE that he forced project Peters out and I think our hope is that by cutting him early we will lessen interest from other teams into putting him on their PS squads or even storing him on their rosters.

It is ineresting how it all fits together.

Long snapper is such a special art , and Dorenbos has the fastest delivery. I just don't see him being cut. After watching a blocked punt this week I think they will be equally as afraid of cutting him.

I think Neufeld is very underrated. Not a star, but a solid 2nd TE.

Other players who could be pushed out the door...

Prioleau by Mark Baker

Bannan and Sape by Anderson & Edwards

Sullivan by McFarland

Shaw by Aiken & Evans

Burns by Simonton or Williams

Shelton by Lawton

I realize that some of these are long shots, but except for MAYBE Shaw, I'd don't think any of these players would be missed. I am not encouraged by what I have read here about Shelton missing blocks while in the meantime Lawton hits everything he sees.

.... except that the block was due to having only 10 men on the field ... doubt a faster delivery would have made much of a difference .....

I think Neufeld has been the #2 TE since minicamps during the offseason, and I don't think Peters ever had a chance of challenging him for that spot. If anything, Euhus, Peters and Trafford were competing for that third TE spot.

I think Neufeld's snapping was bad this weekend. If the team needs a spot, at least they know there is someone else besides Dorenbos who can do the long snapping. And it wasn't his snapping that caused the blocked punt - there were only 10 guys on the field, so the guy that blocked the punt had free reign on Moorman.

TE - I think Neufield costs Dorenbos his job, and thats a good thing. We can devote the roster spot to something besides a LS specialist

G - Lawrence Smith may spell the end of Marquis Sullivan

DE/LB - Gildon may spell the end of Keith McKenzie

DT - We're not keeping all 3 of Bannan, Edwards, and Sape. At best we keep 2

S - Baker and Wire will cost Prieleou his job. Baker's play merits a spot which bumps one of the under achieving safeties and TD isn't as likely to cut one of his draft picks, let alone a first day pick, so soon

Brown did not return any kicks in preseason games so he was already on the way out the door.

Donahoe I think has already learned his lesson that snapper is a position not a speciality.  After cutting Ethan Albright our kicking game went to hell.  He tried afterwards to sign him again but he basically said "Hell no" thinking he would be balancing on the edge of a blade.  Dorenbos is likely to keep his job and Donahoe and Mularkey try to save a spot by using inactive players.

I think Dorenbos contributes to this team far more than a borderline 'position' player would do. The player he replaces will be the 50ish best player on our roster and no more than a third stringer, most likely. So far none of the alternatives have shown Dorenbos to be easily replaceable as he fulfils his role extremely well.

Brown lost his roster spot because he was pretty piss poor in doing his job last season and other players on the roster have shown to be a marked improvement when they have been returning kicks. (I know it is only pre-season that McGee & Reed have had a go, but they can not reasonable to be expected to be much worse than Brown once the regular season starts). The situation is very different with Dorenbos.
