Just as long as he's not black, right? That makes the article way less of a hack job by a racist Fu*ktard :wallbash:

There's nothing racist in that article. You'd have more credibility if you actually criticized him for saying or doing something racist.

Well, the mormon religion has some very racist tenants, so I can see your point.

Buftex c'mon man, just because the kid is Morman doesn't make the blog by someone else racist. Elma Guy is going to be berated here as a racist even if he comes out with gangsta rap. I would probably agree with you that Mormons of generations ago have some real issues, but so do the democrats with their opposition to the civil rights act back in the sixties. If you were "southern" back then and a politician you were probably a dem with alot of sheets and cone hats.

I feel bad for his future wife after he cheats on her.

You mean like that other Mormon, Harry Reid? Interestingly, Harry wasn't even raised Mormon. He converted as adult. Based on your logic, he must cheat on Mrs. Reid all the time. And since he converted as an adult, he clearly did it specifically to cheat on his wife.

Quite the corner you've embarrassed yourself into.

Harry Reid cheats on his wife AND he's a racist?

Yikes.

When I read that, I thought "what a douche". To accuse someone of cheating on his wife, in the future because of his own beliefs concerning the fact that someone is aligned with a certain religion is pretty weak.

LA, on a side note, what's the deal with the LA teachers and their taking less money for less hours?

Yeah, I know...I was just getting into the spirit of throwing **** against the wall. That "blog" is just silly. I could argue that there is a an element of race in there, but I will refrain. But Dave In Elma's defense of this stupid allegory was that Bryce Harper is Mormon... the Mormon faith would present a weak case for arguing that someone is not racist. The church, while it was always behind the times on race issue, did allow blacks to become priests in 1978, but it has never officially stepped away from its' contention that darker skinned people are of inferior intellect, and that their dark skin is, somehow, a curse from god, bestowed upon them for taking a neutral stance in the battle between god and lucifer. I do not make this stuff up...it isn't some new series of fantasy books...this is one of the foundations of the Mormon church. This church is surrounded in as much secrecy as Scientology. That one attracts so many celebrities, so it is okay to write it off as a being a "cult". It isn't a lot crazier than Mormonism.

Read the thread. The Mormon thing came up because C.biscuit[in his forever 14 year old mind] thought it odd that someone 19 years old would think about any thing but play ball and sex. It really had nothing to with the OP.

I don't know all the details because I don't live in LA County and don't send my child to public school, but in a nutshell the city was going to have to lay off about 4,000 teachers and by taking a paycut and reducing the school year by five days, it reduces the number to about 1,400 or so.

The city is in a lot of trouble, so I believe the next step is to reduce the school year to just 18 days.

Read the article again. If you see nothing racist in that article than I suggest you brush up on your reading comprehension skills, especially in regards to subtext.

Though, in this case, it's not even subtext. It's right there in bold print.

Saying this article isn't racist is like saying water isn't wet.

DaveinElma is berated here BECAUSE HE'S A RACIST. Nothing more. If you don't think so, look at his posting history. He's a fool, and sticking up for him on this front makes you a bigger fool.

This has nothing to do with politics. This is an offensive article to me as a human being but more importantly as a writer. It's a hack job with no journalistic merit let alone political one. He uses a silly and strained SPORTS PLAY to demonstrate why the white kid is superior to the black kid.

You think Jason Hayward is "indolent" and lazy because he botched a play? The writer ignores the fact that not more than a few weeks ago, the same "indolent" black guy threw out the "heroic white kid" when Harper made a boneheaded base running error.

The writer ignores all context and history in developing his elementary analogy, but that doesn't make him a racist. You're grasping at straws here. Hack, yes. Idiot, yes. Racist, perhaps. But you can't discern that from this article.

Oh, yes ... there's nothing racist at all in that article. I'm sorry.

"Heyward's bungle showed a complacency, if not indolence, that Harper threatens to destroy, but it also could be a metaphor for the collapse of the old liberal order. Heyward was like one of those public school teachers who, because they are a union member, can't be fired and so are relegated to the "rubber room" to sit and read the paper and gather a check for the rest of their lives. Or even Obama, who went from Hawaii to Harvard to the White House and never seems to have had to slide head-first into a base his entire life."

Painting Hewyard, one of the league's best young stars (a young phenom much like Bryce himself), as lazy is not only incorrect and insane -- but also incredibly racist. If you don't agree with that, you need to brush up on your history. Go look at how scouts described Jackie Robinson play the game before (and after) he broke the color line. You'll see all the same buzz words.

Most authors who were trying to make Judge's case (which, again, is really no case at all rather just the ramblings of a racist !@#$ who thinks he's making a political point) would stop at using old fashion racist buzz words to describe a black player. But nope, Judge stretches his ridiculous metaphor from nasty racial archetypes to lazy black athletes and finally to the welfare state. None of these things connect as much as Judge wants them to. Instead, he's grasping at as many straws as he can find.

The left, like Jason Heyward dozing in the outfield, sees nothing wrong with the way things have worked, or even not worked, for the past 40 years. Teachers should never be fired, no matter how incompetent. It is anathema for public-sector union members to pay for even a small percentage of their own health care. Sex-ed taught without reference to the human soul can only do good, and has nothing to do with promiscuity and the collapse of female self-esteem. And we can spend all the money in the world and never have to pay it back.

So ... the Left = all lazy black guys. And the Right = all hard working white guys. Got it. Yup. Nothing racist to read here.

So if Heyward was white and Harper was black would Jim still be a racist? Because I think Obama is doing a poor job and is lazy am I a racist?

You're asking the wrong question.

The point is if Heyward were white, Judge wouldn't have used him in the example. It's not complicated. He wanted to spout off on not only conservatism but also the evils of black folk. He goes out of his way to do it in the article. So yes, that DOES make him a racist. It has nothing to do with Obama or Romney -- it's about the author being a no talent hack with an axe to grind. That offends me as a writer and as someone with a fully functioning frontal lobe.

Do you think Heyward is the ONLY baseball player to make an error in the outfield this year? Think he's the only outfielder Harper has stretched a single into a double on this year? Of course he isn't. There have been a lot of white guys making errors too. Even within the article itself he double talks -- calling Harper a "throwback" player (throwback to when? perhaps the time when Judge's grandfather played in the league ... back BEFORE the color line was broken) then also claiming Harper was the first batter ever to try to guess what pitch a pitcher is going to throw. So not only is he a ****ty writer, he knows nothing about the game he's attempting to use as a political allegory.

The author has an even bigger agenda than you do on this board, and you have a HUGE agenda. Though I disagree with much of your posts (while finding them amusing) you don't go out of your way to bring racist ideology into your rantings. This guy did, which makes him a fool. DaveinElma reposted his article because he flocks to anything that holds up whitey to be superior to anyone of color. Which makes him an as#hat.

Don't be an as#hat and defend something which is indefensible.

The article was poorly written and Judge went out of his way to stretch a point. Initially I wasn't sure if he was trying to be humorous or not. His points were monumental stretches without any real coherence. Just because the one guy was black and the other white, doesn't make it racist. I just didn't see racism in the article, therefore I thought it was a poor time to call Dave a racist. Dave may be a racist, but I personally get sick of him being called that on every post he makes.

Now, what's my HUGE agenda? Is it any bigger than your agenda?

The only person who would find racism in that article is a person who finds racism in everything. There is nothing specifically in the article...NOTHING...that indicates racism. You see racism because one person is black and one is white, a point that wasn't even brought up in the story.

Look, that was a dumbass story, but the fact that you found it racist tells us everything we need to know about you.

Let me guess: you believe the reason Obama can't get anything done in Congress is because he's black, right? It's okay. You can admit it.
